Recovery From Emphysema and COPD
Detailed account of my mother's struggles and eventual recovery from emphysema and COPD. The doctors said it was impossible to reverse emphysema so I was shocked when she recovered from End Stage Emphysema and 4 liters of supplemental oxygen.

I had worked in a hospital as a younger man and did not remember any emphysema or COPD patients getting better or winning the fight against these disease conditions. I began to research for a few hours each night but for over 9 months found nothing.
As I watched my mother deteriorate a little more each time I saw her I decided to go with her on her next visit to the doctor. During that visit he assured me there was no cure for emphysema or COPD and that the medications he had prescribed were the best medical science had to offer. I noticed that these medications cost over $1000 per month but she had very good insurance so there was no problem paying for them.
She had quit smoking at about the same time she was diagnosed and I understood that if she kept smoking the disease would get worse but what I couldn't understand was why her emphysema and COPD were getting worse at an accelerated rate and she didn't smoke. On her next visit to the pulmonary specialist I asked him point blank,
"Why is her emphysema and COPD getting worse even though she quit smoking some time ago?"
After some pharmaceutical rhetoric he admitted that they simply didn't know why emphysema and COPD got worse long after the patients stop smoking. It was a mystery!
I decided right then and there that I would research these disease conditions until I either solved the mystery or my mother took her last breath.
Over the next year I noticed my mother was given 4 prescriptions for prednisone along with 4 prescriptions for antibiotics. This same year her teeth had been breaking off resulting in trips to the dentist for the removal of the remaining root and an additional prescription for antibiotics. All in all she had been given 4 prescriptions for prednisone and 7 prescriptions for antibiotics during this 12 month time period. Her condition deteriorated at an alarming rate, much faster than at any other time since her diagnosis.
At the end of this 12 month period my mother was on 4 liters of supplemental oxygen on a machine that only went to 5 liters and gasping for air most of the time. Her weight had dropped down to a mere 77 pounds and her doctor said she was in End Stage Emphysema with only months to live. My research on emphysema and COPD increased dramatically since I was now taking care of her full time.
I would make a pot of coffee at 11 pm and stay up all night checking on her every 15 minutes and researching emphysema and COPD all night long. In the morning I would bring her her breakfast and coffee and then collapse for 5 hours until lunch.
During my research I uncovered seemingly unrelated research published by Mayo Clinic and read information published by a world renowned author and physician with the World Health Organization. As I began applying this research to emphysema and COPD my mother started improving. This I had not seen since her diagnosis. I then intensified the utilization of these new principles and protocols and her improvement accelerated.
By the time the next 12 months had elapsed not only was she not dead she was not requiring any supplemental oxygen and had regained 23 of the 26 pounds she had lost since her diagnosis.
