OTHER STORIES BY BROOK LARIOS,
SAN DIEGO SUSTAINABLE FOOD EMAMINER
From Brook Ladios Earth Day Artlcle
Perhaps Earth Day is a good reminder that a sustainable lifestyle is a healthy lifestyle -- that sustainably raised foods taste better than those laden with pesticides -- that the ratio of planet to people is pretty astounding: one to nearly seven billion, but unless it happens to fall on a Saturday or Sunday, I think few people, however, do more than nodding to Google's Earth Day icon (which is pretty sweet, I'll admit. Have you checked it out?) before going about their general search. Which is fine! Just remember to do your part in small ways throughout the year. Earth Day might be gimmicky, but the Earth herself has got to be sustained, and she's trying her darnedest. Give her a hand! (No, not a round of applause).
LA MILPA ORGANICA ARTICLE BY BROOK LARIOS
La Milpa Organica Farm hosts a potluck and movie on the third Saturday of each month, offering members of the community an opportunity to congregate under the oaks in the Cinema Paradiso outdoor theater. Free to the public, the dedicated health-centric crew will demonstrate how, in a nation that typically values industrialized farming, they're making a difference, and how you can be a part of the movement toward fresh, chemical-free foods. The next event is this Saturday, April 18.
The word has spread about the quality of La Milpa's produce. Local chefs like Jeff Jackson at A.R. Valentien and Marguerite Grifka at Starlite Lounge, one of my favorites, arefueling select dishes with fresh produce from La Milpa. Psssttt...you can too! Here's a simple recipe made from kale, which is in season and BEAUTIFUL right now. From my kitchen to yours:

In April 2008, Examiner.com was relaunched as a nationwide network of locally focused Web pages. Examiner.com says it currently serves 60 markets.
Content is provided by recruited national and local contributors that the company calls "examiners." The site also offers a digest of news headlines from local news outlets and the Associated Press.
FASCINATING HISTORY OF
EXAMINER:
http://denver.bizjournals.com/denver/stories/2008/04/21/story2.html
William Randolph Hearst was a new-media pioneer before there was such a thing.
The inspiration for "Citizen Kane," Hearst began as owner of the San Francisco Examiner newspaper in 1887, the start of a nationwide empire that grew to more than two dozen dailies.
But Hearst soon branched out into what were then considered nontraditional media: magazines at first, and then radio, movie newsreels and, eventually, television.
If Hearst -- who died in 1951 -- were alive today, it would be easy to imagine him at the helm of an unconventional media venture that takes its name from his first newspaper.
After low-profile beginnings, Examiner.com -- a Denver-based national news-and-information website -- was relaunched April 14. The redesigned site now offers localized content from bloggers -- known as "examiners" -- chosen for their knowledge of various topics of interest.

Examiner.com is the latest chapter in Denver financier Philip Anschutz's effort to blow up traditional media models.
He began in 2004 when he bought the San Francisco Examiner -- then a sorry shadow of the once-proud Hearst flagship paper -- and converted it into a free tabloid distributed in high-end neighborhoods. Anschutz now owns two other free dailies -- also called Examiner -- in Washington and Baltimore.

Freud's reputation as one of the most adept networkers was sealed when he married Rupert Murdoch's daughter Elisabeth five years ago.
Apart from being Ms Wade's proprietor, Mr Murdoch is also a business partner of AEG's owner Philip Anschutz. Last month Anschutz's Walden Media group struck a deal with Murdoch to develop family films together - News Corp's Fox Filmed Entertainment will have first rights to future Walden projects.

he company makes a significant amount of its money by leveraging its sports interests, already significant earners, by using the stadia in which these teams play to host various other entertainment events, most notably concerts. Indeed, Philip Anschutz created the company by buying up several small local promoters in Los Angeles in order to fill up the schedule for his new sports venue, STAPLES Center. It is now the second-largest event promoter in the United States.
AEG is the world’s largest owner of sports teams and sports events, the owner of the world’s most profitable sports and entertainment venues, and under AEG Live is the world’s second largest presenter of live music and entertainment events after Live Nation.
In August 2007, AEG announced plans with Harrah's Entertainment to build a privately-financed 20,000-seat arena in Las Vegas on the Strip [1] on Harrah's land located directly behind the Bally's Las Vegas and Paris Las Vegas resorts.
