This is a Seed Dream I have for 2008:
There will be an Organic Center-Enchanted Garden Club Collaboration:
This is a bit of the background so far.
I have been invited to be a photographer at the
Organic Center Fundraiser at the Natural Product Expo West
the eve of March 14 at the Anaheim Marriot.
I will seek sponsors for this Pro Bono gift of photography
for the Organic Center non-profit.
This is from my note to Seleyn the Program Director.
Organic Center Enchanted Garden Collaboration 08?
There are enough farmers in San Diego to teach how to grow organic food
on BOTH sides of the border for 100 miles. We also need to step up
and create more gardeners....one person, one pot, that is all I am asking!
In World War 2, 40% of our foods were grown by people at their homes.
We are now putting a significant focus on organic food coming from other countries.
The Enchanted Garden Club Growing Network will promote more heavily local organic farming
in our region/ We are one of the regions of the Medicinal Herb Consortium,
as of Fall 08 (in process.)
In O7, through the Sponsorship of Anthony Zolezzi, and his
Association of Family Farmers, inc, I brought locally grown
organic fresh picked that day strawberries in our Whole Foods Market HIllcrest.
This stimulated Whole Foods Market regionally and Wild Oats in the direction of "local" organic.
Local organic needs another booster shot in 08. We are again leaning toward
organic food coming from other countries. This debilitates the local farming community,
especially in our So Cal growing region.
In California, there is now a cap on water use. The farmers in So Cal are
being asked to cut water 30%. They are basically being fined if they
grow use more water. This basically is putting a cap on local organic growing of food
in our bioregion. Joe Rodriguez Jr, would be expanding his production, including
growing for Whole Foods Market, at a time when the state is disallowing such expansion.
There needs to be legislative action. Providing water to golf courses is
a higher priority than providing water for local farmers, says Joe jr.
This will come as the Organic Trade Association Members and
Organic Center supporters become more aware of what our local
farmers are dealing with out here.
Joe Rodriguez Sr, fourth generation farmer San Diego, is wondering,
what will we do if the borders close and food supply becomes hard to get?
At a time when we are beginning to look at less energy dependency
on foreign countries, we are moving in the direction of more food
growing dependency.
In San Diego, we have weather to once again become a growing food
capital for the country. Now is the time to build in San DIego taking
into account the food needs of the region. There are is more local
farming is San Diego than any other place in the US. If we cannot
set a model here, it will not happen anywhere.
True Earth Based Homeland Security will be based on each of us
knowing how to grow our own food, and being intimate with the local
organic farmer growing the rest of our food, whenever possible.
This is one of the main Enchanted Garden Projects for 08, to
disseminate and inspire more gardeners.
Having Kids grow Job's Tears and make necklaces out of them,
and the World Peace Starter Kit, are two of the Projects
that I will kick off in 08.
More info on this will be on my Plant Your Dream Blog.
