My name is Lindsay, I'm currently in college, and I am a I fast about six to eight times a year. I love the benefits that come from the fasts that I do. THe longest fast that I have ever done was a 7 day fast. I'm not going to lie and say fasting is easy for me, but by the end of the fast I feel better, my digestive system is cleaned out and healed to an extent, and I usually lose some weight that was longing to be shed.
The first few days for me are particularly hard. My stomache makes the cliche grumbles, I have vivid images in my mind of what I am going to eat when my fast is over with, and I get increasingly worse headaches in the first 3 days (I'm assuming this side effect is from the toxins in my body leaving my system). After the middle of the fourth day or so my appetite pretty much drops off of my radar and food is pretty much unappealing aside from the yearning for taste, which really is nothing compared to having a unrelenting appetite. By the time I reach the end of the fast (the 7th day) I feel lighter, my headaches that I have had for the past five years are non-existent, and I feel healthier as a whole, which is the main focus in doing my fasts.
This particular fast that I am going to venture on will be 20-21 days depending on if I can some how manage getting out of a family get together that sis supposed to be on the 21st day. We'll see I suppose. As I said I have never done more than 7 days straight, but I know that once my head is in the fasting mindset it won't be that hard to stop myself. In this fast I will be consuming endless amounts of water, black tea without any sweeteners, and diet coke. Consuming diet coke in my fast I know is unhealthy even when someone is consuming food, but I have tried doing a fast without it and needless to say I did not accomplish my goal for the fast.
So with that said, tomorrow I am going to embark on my most lengthy fast to date.
