Echad:Oneness
The powerful Hebrew prayer, the Shema, reminds us that All is One
Date: 11/4/2007 5:08:58 PM ( 18 y ) ... viewed 1543 times Hebrew prayer: "Shema yisra’el adonia eloheinu adonia echad."
Translation: "Here O Israel, Adonai is Our God, Adonai is One."
Alternate translation: "Listen, all of you who wrestle with the concept of God, God is One with us, and we are One with God."
Echad: Oneness
Let us expand our understanding of "echad" from its numerical meaning ("one") to the concept of Oneness. The Divine is one with everything that exists. There is no point where the Divine ends and manifestation begins. Manifestation is one with the Divine in much the same way as the wave is one with the ocean. Each wave is wonderful, unique and powerful, but it is not separate from the ocean where it arose and to which it will return. The ocean and all the waves are one. So is the Earth, and all life upon her, one with the Divine, one with All That Is.
Amen
