This is getting me down. . .really down. There are hurt feelings and misplaced sentiments/resentments coming up. I warned EG about printing this story because of how it would be taken by you. . .AND because it labels me as Harpo's lover which is far from the truth. The gist of the story plainly conveys Harpo's inner battle with his sexuality. . .the man was not to be messed with at that level! He took his conversion seriously and I did what I could to support him in that. Harpo and I were NOT a couple, nor did we have anything resembling a relationship. We had and UNDERSTANDING about where we were both at in life. To miss the point of the essence of our friendship would be sad indeed. I dare to say that this story misconstrues the nature of our endearing and longlasting LOVE affair. . .not sexual, mind you! Read AUTHENTIC LOVE. . .he was very clear about cultivating a relationship that was far and above and beyond romance. And we did that, for which I am very proud.
Yes, he battled his guilt. . .who would want anything to do with someone so wracked with guilt? What a turnoff!
I hope you'll re-read some of the stories with a heart that can see into his dilemma and know that he was really trying to become someone who Jesus would find worthy of the Kingdom. He really was sincere, Tina. I'm sorry you have to piece this together on your own. . .we really have tried to give you a sense of your father's goodness. Don't miss it. Forgive seventy times seven. . .your father loved you and still does! AND he had a lot of friends who knew his compassion. These are the things that he left behind and we will always love him for the good he accomplished during the times we knew him. No one was harder on himself, than he was! And no one could understand why. . .no one knew his past, but now we do. . .does it change anything? Not really.
