Actually, when it rains here in the summers, it's much like you described when you visited Texas.  The sun is out many times when it rains, making it like a steam bath!  And if the sun isn't out at the time it rains, it will be back out the moment it stops raining, again, making the air seem like a steam bath.  And the people run around nearly naked, in shorts and halters, sundresses and sandals, bathing suits.  Sometimes it's sooooooo hot and humid it's difficult to breathe.  The temps average mid to high 90s with at least 90% humidity.  The evenings are not much better.  However, I do live 3 minutes from the Gulf as the seagull flies, so we do get somewhat cooler breezes than the interior does.

I lived four years in Anchorage, Alaska and the winters were literally dark much of the time.  Dec 21, the day without sunlight would be like 23 hours and so many minutes.  But it begins to turn after that and with more day light each day, until June 21 when there is something like 23 hours and so many minutes of sunlight.  The midnight sun.  (How do you convince young children it's bedtime when the sun is still in the middle of the sky at 11:00 pm?) 

You would be a raving lunatic during the winters there with as little sunlight as it gets.  Thinking back, I realize that I didn't have a problem with that kind of darkness during the winters in Alaska.   Because I moved there from Florida, perhaps I had enough sunlight stored up.  LOL
