Hi.
I find it hard to comprehend 'cyber bullying'. Yes, it can be momentarily annoying and maddening when some faceless keyboard enthusiast with nothing of any gravity or note in their lives abuses or insults others online. Also, they might have a mental issue that is worthy of our pity and sympathy, rather than our outrage and depression.
My overall feeling is that people who are susceptible to bullying or abuse, will find it. Especially nowadays via cyber space. Of course, I realise only too well that there are victims of bullying in the physical world, who are the random target of any random abuser. But generally, we flag-up our vulnerability and then the bullies home in. Who, I wonder, thought that the phrase 'bullies are always cowards' would catch on so well that it would become a cliche? My method is, ignore it, don't respond and get over it and move on.
In my life so far, I have found that religious believers are more inclined to perceive 'bullying' or abuse. The more fanatical, the more sensitive they are to being criticised or even queried. You know what I mean? Like, the modern phenomena of people being 'offended' by anything they can think of? I don't get the lingering fight back against people who, apparently, say stuff about you which is not true...I mean, it isn't true, is it? So why be offended? Someone said to me years ago, 'don't worry about what people think about you, it's none of your business!'Never a truer word spoken in jest, to coin yet another phrase. But, this mantra has helped keep me focused and resistant to the erosion of self-belief and confidence. Much more so than my early religious studies which I was forced to go to, which made me feel unworthy and paranoid! In fact,I would go as far as to say that some of the most disrespectful and bad attitude individuals I have ever met are religious believers. Like, everyone else is not worthy or lesser human beings. Weird. You'd think they'd want to be more God-like and empathetic to the poor & uneducated weaklings amongst us.
As for injustice. Well, sure there is injustice common to us all, regardless of faith, race or gender. However, injustice and justice on a sociological and communal level are oxymorons, in my assessment. The victors make the law. Sometimes dictators or tyrants. Sometimes, 'Democratic' governemnts. Or a King or Queen. (What's all that about???!) But to defy them is still seen as breaking the law, justice must be seen to be done, to keep order!. To the victims, it may well be the very embodiment of injustice. If only someone else was in charge!
Then , you have the 'one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter' syndrome. The West(remember 'The War on Terror'), seemingly supporting a 'rebel' force in Libya,Egypt and now Syria. But all seen as outlaws in the country of their judicial roots. Then, we have the self-appointed Global Police. The moral high ground righteous. The ones who conduct a 'just' war, in the name of God. (wow! How did they find that out? A direct line? Peter Sutcliffe said he heard God's words guiding him, but he got life for murdering women in Yorkshire!) Strange, isn't it?
My conclusion? It's all a crock of shit. No one knows. Do the best for yourself and your fellow human beings and judge yourself before condemning others. Can't see it catching on though! Some one in 'authority' would not allow me such freedom! I mean, apparently God wrote the Bible, through his special human, earth-based chosen few, admittedly. But it doesn't seem to have worked to well, does it? Love, peace and harmony? Best wishes to you and your family. Terry Deans
