I have fasted several times before, and afterwards I was broken from the basic 3 meals a day. It was more like 8 mini meals a day. I would have a small breakfast, a snack between lunch, which might be a couple apple slices or a hand full of grapes, a small lunch, a snack before dinner, a small dinner (usually a portion size meat, and 2 or 3 cups of two types of veggies) and a small snack before dinner.
I was much happier to eat several small meals & snacks then when I ate regular, big meals three times a day. I was healthier when I ate more, yet small portions, plus I lost more weight when I did that, then when I ate only 3 meals a day.
I think it is just have been common habit to eat three meals add, as people are so busy, that most can only get three meals and they are usually heavy. In the ancient times, people broke their nightly fast on small simple things like figs, a bit of bread, ale and fruit. They kept it small and simple. That is what I do. I have fruit, sometimes a couple bites of a leftover steamed veggie from the night before. Maybe an egg. I am more energetic and happy if I eat that, then eating a Egg McMuffin, a Poptart or anything processed for breakfast.
Good luck on your current fast. I am on my 4th day, and it has been a bit rough around the edges, but I know I will feel great when I am done in 15 days.
