I recommend very strongly that you decide the starting day of the fast in advance in order to be able to prepare for it mentally and physically, and then dedicate a full week prior to this day for lowering into the fasting diet, ie. holding a pre-fast week, during which mostly soups and juices should be consumed to make it easier to get used to the tastes and consistency.
It is incredibly hard to start a fast cold turkey, you will - quaranteed - experience hunger and cravings so much stronger than you would when prepared properly. A fast is a dramatic change of diet! Be merciful to yourself, and make it as easy as possible. Eliminate all temptations!
Also, if you are serious about a change of lifestyle, you should not return to your old eating habits after the fast. Firstly a proper and careful post-week should be held, to get used to solids slowly. Then, I would recommend a raw diet, at least for a while. Maybe sorting out what foods you never want to consume again prior and during the fast will help you, it gives you a set plan to stick to rather than needing to decide it every day over and over again when a faced by a temptation.
All the best!
