Blog: Eczema and the 30 day Juice Fast
There are 10,000 restaurants in NYC. From the minute I leave my apartment, every step I take is a reminder of food. Steak here, sushi there, burger there, delicious just like home fried chicken there—my steps are filled with chewing memories. Even the street corners offer no relief—the shwarma guy, hot dog guy, and pretzel and nut guy are all there to tempt my hunger for solid food. I’m pretty bad right now. I look like a junky staggering down the street-- random body scratches, a mouth full of drool. I can’t help myself. My senses seemed magnified. I now know how a dog feels navigating the smelly white noise of the city. After 2 days of torturous temptation I’m happy to say I’m still in the game.
Reinforcements came on Tuesday in the form of a Breville 800 juicer, Breville citrus juicer and several boxes of fruits and vegetables from Fresh Direct. I’ve been a juice making machine after only one failed juicing attempt-- where I added the juice of 2 cloves of garlic to my spinach/orange/apple/carrot/cucumber drink (!!!), then chugged the putrid concoction down— I spent the next 20 minutes by the toilet moaning and drooling, trying to throw up. Since then, my stomach’s thanked me for adopting a more conservative palate: orange/carrot, spinach/cucumber, apple/kiwi, and a shot of wheatgrass from the corner health food store.
I have a ton of energy and it’s been difficult to sleep the 8 hours I’m use to. My skin is still bad, but noticeable patches of eczema are starting to clear up. My face is getting better. Today I walked to union square and bought some apples from the farmers market. It was the first time in a couple weeks I didn’t have my incognito hat, sunglasses, hoody travel combo on. My skin seemed thirsty for whatever sunshine the city’s buildings would filter through, and I happily let it drink as much as it could.

- Juice diet/detox solutions for eczema by Itchy Spice

I just came across your journal today, because you sound just like me and I've now been trying a juice "cleanse" for 4 days now. I'm curious to know how you're doing at this point. I realize that the message I'm responding to was months ago, but by this time you should have some words of advise for me. I also have "bad" skin in general. I must have the cleanest oily face on earth! I started getting allergy injections in Jan. 2006. They seem to help a bit for the itchy skin and dry eyes, but not completely. I'm hoping to do this detox and then start implementing solid foods into my diet, trying to figure out what causes irritation.
I'm writing from Windsor Ontario Canada, and I do believe we have the worst polution in Canada. We have the big 3 car companies here and of course Detroit is a mile away, so we also have that polution. Unfortunately, moving isn't an option at this point.
Anyway, it's a Friday afternoon and I have to wrap up my work day. Write when you can.
Thanks,
Itchy Spice

healnyc.. I think I know where youre comming from. I'm 29 and have bad eczema too.
I stopped eating midday yesterday and hope to restrict my diet to mainly juice for at leat 10 days. I did a week a couple of years ago and i remember feeling great afterwards. I'm pretty sure this approach is good for most people with eczema.
I dont know if you ever suffer from asthma but, the allergies and anxiety I have are very much attributed to my breathing pattern..Ive just got to stay CALM is all!
I know anxiety has led to poor digestion. This fast will help sort that out!
Mate. thanks for your blog, I'll have to post my progress back here later in the week.
Tim
