My two major purchases for my new home are a Breville Juice Fountain Elite $299 on sale at Macy's. I got 15% off for opening a Macy's charge card. I also get a gift card later on because I bought it off my registry. Macy's actually gave me a credit card and I'm sure it's because I have a registry there. Anyway, my blender is a Kitchen Aid blender that cost me $99 and I also get a bridal gift card later from that too. They did not have a mandolin. The salesman told me that they don't carry them anymore because they have too many problems with them breaking. Honest of him to tell me so. It may sound like a lot to some people but consider that health is wealth.
Some other things I purchased:
a digital thermometer
a salad spinner
a box grater
I think keeping it simple is wise. My fiance has fruit trees and lots of wild greens growing around the house. No one sprays in his area so they're safe. They'll make great green smoothies for the summer. I got a copy of Victoria Butenko's book about green smoothies. It's a very good book so I'm going to try some of her recipes this weekend. I'm so done with shopping! I feel that my kitchen shopping is complete. I have something for myself and the ultrahuge George Foreman grill to make healthy food for my fiance, fresh caught fish, etc. His father hunts his own meat at his good age of almost 80. That's how it should be imho. If someone is going to be eat meat, at least hunt for it. That way, a person bypasses all the factory farming, advertising and other nonsense associated with commercial meat industry.
Tomorrow I make my first green smoothie to test out my blender. I'll be sure to let everyone know it goes. Today was a mostly raw day and two cups of coffee, small cups. Not as much stress though I did have a mini-episode of depression. I think it's just pre-wedding cold feet. I feel mostly back on balance. I requested that the reception hall provide me with a huge avocado salad with sunflower seeds for dinner. Yeah nice and fatty so I don't gorge myself on wedding cake. The only cake I'm having is whatever Jawnai puts in my mouth for the photographer!

Ren,
You are going to LOVE them!
My faves are:
Kale, water (blend these together first to liquify) --- and pineapple.
Spinach, water --- and Mexican Papaya. I add cinnamon as it makes the papaya super flavorful.
I honestly don't know how it will be with a regular blender. I have a VitaMix which will absolutely liquify all the fiber so you can't even tell it's in there! If you find the top quality blender you bought still doesn't do it for the green smoothies, don't give up on them. The expensive blenders are worth it because they do something the normal ones can't do, and that is breakdown cellulose to liquid. Adding ice keeps it from "cooking" --- getting too hot from the friction.
I add stevia and ice to all recipes.
I love "Green for Life" and found it so inspiring.
Green = joy ..... having green smoothies almost guarantees a good day .... it is hard to be in a bad mood with such delicious green energy in you!

I want to figure out the best tasting, most energy packed green smoothie there is on the earth before next Saturday and Sunday. I am going to be in a beauty salon ALL DAY Saturday and Sunday morning too. You can only imagine what one could eat under those conditions, esp. since there's a chinese food joint next door and a beef patty place across the street!
