  • impossible diets   by  #60086     18 y     2,202       3 Messages Shown       Blog: problems with dieting
hello to everyone reading this, i am new to this whole blog business, but i had something to say about dieting and wanted to know how many people could relate to my situation, and maybe get some insight on what i could do to change it.
i am 25 years old and have 4 children, i am a stay at home mom and my husband is a truck driver and is gone most of the time. i weighed 125 pounds when my husband and i got together 5 years ago and now i weigh a total of 202 pounds and found myself in a impossible situation, although i have every desire to lose my weight i simply can't afford to, we live on one income, which is approximately 30,000 to 35,000 a year and i can't afford to buy excersise equipment for my home or go to a gym or even to buy the outrageous diet foods that is suggested to work, although i'm very skeptical if they do or not. i recently found myself on curezone.com looking into kevin trudeaus 30 day 30 pounds weight loss diet and thought well this is a man with real concern for us and might be able to help me and i read his diet and he discussed things that i thought to myself was really no different from all these other scams, he tells you things to do then suggest you buy all these different books to learn how to do them. then he said i can eat just to change the things i eat ( buy organic meats and vegetable, and buy raw milk ) and all that sounded great till i went to the store to buy those products and they were more expensive than the bad foods i am currently buying and can barely afford them with 4 children, then he saids walk for an hour every day and by the time i get the house cleaned and kids fed and changed and lawn work done and driveway shoveled and such i don't have an hour before it gets dark and if i did i would have to walk at my 3 year old pace and push a stroller with 2 children in it at the same time. so i guess my point is that i can't afford the "organic" foods i am told to eat to lose my weight or buy the excersise equipment to lose my weight and can't afford nor do i have time for the gym, and at the end of my rope i keep hearing about all these great diets and can't find one that is legitimate and in my price range. its not the desire to lose weight i feel is the problem is the impossible prices and time, to do it. if you are like me you can't afford to keep falling for all these scams at the expense of your family and are quite fed up with it ne ways. and for those of you who might be thinking why don't she get a job, i say that cause so many people have asked me that question. here is the answer i priced all the child care facilitys within a 20 mile driving distance of my area and for 3 children that are not in school i would pay more for child care than i would make. i have limited education although i believe myself to be a smart person i do not have any college to get the kind of paying job i would need. my problem is real and i have tried weight watchers and couldn't afford to keep buying their products and believe it or not i think its a real reality that its more affordable to eat these "bad for you" products than it is to buy the "good for you" products. i will give an example i went to the health food store near me and i priced 2-12oz boxes of organic cereal for 8.17 and i can go to walmart and get 3 unhealthy sugar filled boxes for the same price. another reality is that within 40 miles of my home i have one store that sells organic foods.

Having the desire to change things is the first step - it sounds like you feel the deck is stacked against you a bit at the moment.

Don't worry - it's not all about organic foods and expensive stuff. I'll bet you could find a few minutes in the morning while the kids are playing to do some sit ups and push ups.

I think exercise is the first step, and you don't have to do an hour of walking, if you can't spare an hour all at once. It may be better to break up your exercise throughout the day. And cleaning, if you put your back into it, is certainly a way to burn up calories.

A lot of us here try fasting and cleansing routines, but there's a lot to be said for the old adage: you will lose weight if you burn more calories than you consume. Period. The calories from sugar cereal are the same calories you get from fresh squeezed carrot juice. So watch portion sizes and don't worry about going organic! It won't help you learn control. that's the hardest part. I'm struggling with it, and some people here have way more experience than I do, but don't come down super hard on yourself.

So if you can't afford to do anything fancy, start simple - write down EVERY SINGLE THING YOU EAT. Then start adding some exercise - 15 minutes of jumping jacks, situps and pushups (do 10-20 of each, and rotate). You'll get your blood moving, set a great example for the kids, and it's not a whole hour out of your day.

Good luck! We're here for ya!

    • Shannon; First there is no magic diet....   by  kerminator     18 y     1,200

Congrads to your being a stay at home MOM....   My wife also had four boys and was a "Keeper of the Home"...  The children need to stability of a good Mother...

The key to life is balance and moderation....  Remember we are all on a diet; it just what kind of diet....  The best news is to eat an 80/20 diet...  that is the have a near balanced diet for 80% of your diet, then if and when the other not so healthy foods come up it will be .... OK for the remaining 20% of your diet...   Therefore 80/20...

I have written some on diets on past blogs, which you can check out, plus there is more stuff out there; but most are going to sell you something....  I do not sell information...  Will keep track of your progress,  you have one very important advantage and that is you want to make a change in your life...  That is excellent, and unfortunately most people talk about change, but never do anything about it...  Keep the faith, dear lady...   see ya... K
