  • MULBERRY Time!   by  SqueakyClean     18 y     3,535       3 Messages Shown       Blog: Observations
It is mulberry season here! We have a big tree in our backyard, and the berries are already falling off. Most are a bright red, only 1/2 ripe, but some are dark red or even an almost purple-blackish. When they are completely that dark purple they are fully ripe. I spent a long time Sunday foraging for these berries that had already fallen off the tree, eating them straight off the ground! Yesterday I went and ate some more. They taste SO good and I felt great after eating them, too! My thumb and index finger are stained purple! I recommend this one for planting in your backyard, while you are planting berries and whatnot. Botanically speaking, I understand these aren't technically berries, but lots of tiny fruits in clusters, but to me... they are a berry. Berry delicious!

    • May I come over for lunch?   by  YourEnchantedGardener     18 y     1,233

      Dear Squeeky,

I feel you are a bit understating the case with
mulberries. They are ecstacy and mind altering,
in my experience. Dr. Jensen had this big
tree of them. In Escondido, So Cal this tree came
in during the summer, I believe, but at Leonard's
farm the little Russian white Mulberries would come
      in this time of year.

The only way for an Enchanted Gardener to
eat such delights in stark naked, if you want
to go the full mulberry distance.

This is a God food, and I know the sensation
of going into that altered state stuffing one and one
      in the oral cavity.

I also have that same response...they are a balanced
sugar. Jensen praised the "berries" for their seeds...
the more seeds, the more sex hormones and food
      for the immune system.

Nothing so nice as a well stained mulberry hand
      or for that matter body.

Say, Squeek please "observe" the Strawberry blog
writings on the Plant Your Dream blog.

      your eg
      Leslie
