One of the greatest obstacles to living a joyous and peaceful life is the fear of the unknown. This is a common and almost universal fear for we humans, who have a conscious awareness of self and know that -like everything and everyone around us- we too will one day die.
The methods to avoid the fear of this reality that have been employed throughout the centuries by people are wide and varied. So much of religion and science, as well as other disiplines are geared to make us feel as if we 'know' the 'truth' of what is.
The Reality is, life is more of a 'crap-shoot' than we like to think. There are many factors we can influence, granted, with our attitude and intentions. But, these factors, predominantly, are factors that reside within our own selves, rather than in the 'external' universe.
'We are what we think...' a wise person once said. But, if we think we are, or can be above and beyond the laws of nature in this physical universe, we are only one thing; deluded.
'Surrender' is not 'giving up.' It is Acceptance.
Acceptance brings joy and peace, in my experience, and it is only a matter of deciding what one is willing to accept and what one is willing to change, if they can.
To anyone that believes that kidneys can be revived after reaching 'end-stage renal failure' - I suggest you go to the renal unit in any hospital. Look at and talk to the patients. Then, talk to the staff, the nurses. Ask them what is the percentage of people who recover from 'renal failure'? Or, 'how much of a chance is there that some of these patients' kidneys will return to a reasonable state of health'?
With acceptance there is a chance for peace. To fight the flow of life (and death) is to fight life itself. There is no peace there. There is no quiet. There is no joy.
Surrender and Accept. We are born, We live, We die.
What happens between birth and death is up to us.
We can stuggle and fight to make things different than they are, or we can observe, learn and come to know what is impossible for us and what is possible.
We, as individuals, as egos, may vanish into the void, eventually. But life goes on, regardless.
And we are, after all, Life Itself.
