Storytelling, throughout human history has been a vital and important part of human interaction.

In ancient times, the people gathered around the fire at night to share dreams, visions and tales of romance and adventure, gods and demons, heroes and cowards, for entertainment, mostly, but also to pass knowledge and beliefs on to others.

This is likely how many religions began, as the imagination of man explored and examined the questions of life and death and shared their ideas and imaginings with others at the end of the day.

Today, we still have this fundamental instinct and need for telling and reading or listening to stories. We are still very much the 'Hunter/Gatherer' that our ancestors were, in spite of our technological 'advances.'

The great danger today is that there are many stories told that do not, in any fashion whatsoever, represent a realistic or even sane view of the realities of human existence.

With the advent of television and movies, it is now possible to widely spread stories and visions of lust, fear, fantasy and horror to almost everyone, everywhere in the world.

The human mind is often incapable of discerning between fact and fiction, and so many of these stories can lead to a mind-set that could be quite detrimental to the growth of our mental facaulties, in many ways!

It can be noted, in the same manner as religions and fables of the past, the most popular and widely sought stories are of heroes and heroic quests of magnificent proportions.

This has been a common thread throughout the history of man, for we humans, in seeking meaning, have a tendency to 'noble-ise' our motives, to make sense of our actions and reactions, to give order and sense to this mystery called 'life.'

From the ancient gods of Greece to the christian fables of Christ, these images represent a common and intimate reality that is alive in each and every one of us,
whether we are conscious of this dynamic or not.

We all have the same fears, the same desires, the same hopes and aspirations.

Through the sharing of stories we can learn how other humans deal with these elements of our existence, which, regardless of the passage of time and the evolution of species, the growth of science and the explosion of technological wonders, remain with us, even now, as we stand on the edge of the cosmos and gaze beyond the realm of our earthly cradle in wonder.

Keep a bucket of salt handy at all times!

    LOVE
