On Saturday, Democracy Now! interviewed legendary singer, actor and humanitarian, Harry Belafonte at The Great Hall at Cooper Union.
He revealed the story behind why he was disinvited from the funeral of Coretta Scott King even though he was a close friend of both Coretta and her late husband, the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.
According to Belafonte, the King family originally invited him to help eulogize Coretta Scott King but the family rescinded the invitation after President Bush announced he would attend the funeral.
Just weeks earlier Belafonte had made international headlines when he spoke out against President Bush during a trip to Venezuela to meet with President Hugo Chavez.
In a moment we will hear Harry Belafonte discuss the controversy surround Coretta Scott King's funeral but we begin with Harry Belafonte talking about how artists are punished for speaking out.

I know you don't like Bush Lapis but Belafonte has a despicable way about him and how he criticises people. He's a straight up racist as well. To each his own I suppose.

Can you explain how Belefonte has " a despicable way about him" and how "He's a straight up racist as well"?
Do all people that offer a dissenting view against a rising police state fall into a similar category?
It's all about coherency!

Lapis you know exactly what I'm referring to. He regularly calls black people who disagree with him racial epithets. You can google it and find it out for yourself. I NEVER said anyone who dissents against what you call a police state falls into that category. Don't play games. I was merely commenting on HB.

HB has indirectly referred to those blacks who sell out for POWER! And I think you know who I'm talking about. Examples being Colin Powell, Condi, etc. I tend to think they become slaves to the powers that be.....
I invite you to take another look at him with an open and thinking mind.....
