As many people know, I highly value the importance of dreams. I believe there is so much great information our dreams can tell us about ourselves, about others and about the world. They can be a window into our subconscious or a medium through which we receive messages from the universe. That’s why it is so important to tap into this great resource, but you have to be willing to pay attention. At least that is what I have learned over the last couple of months.

Over a year ago, I began the process of recording my dreams. I keep a pad and pen next to my bed and as soon as I wake up from a dream I write down anything and everything I can remember even if it is at two o’clock in the morning. I will then leave it for later and try to interpret it. Well the last two or three months or so, I have had what might be called a dreamer’s block. I know that I have been dreaming, but for the life of me I could not recall a single thing. Not even one little tidbit. This just seemed very strange for me especially since I lay such a heavy emphasis on their importance.

So I began to look at this and try and figure out what was going on. How come I know I have been dreaming but have no clue about the dreams? Well I thought about it for a little bit and couldn’t come up with any answers. But no matter what the reason, I was determined to reconnect. So I decided to actually concentrate on the intention to remember the dream. Before I went to bed I said out loud that I intend to remember my dreams tonight so that I can write them down. I then situated the pad even closer to the bed so the reach wouldn’t be as far and I also clicked the pen so that it would be ready to write. I went through this little bit of preparation as I thought it might reinforce my intention. I looked at it as thought reinforced with action will make an intention even more powerful.

Well that night I woke up at three o’clock in the morning with a wild dream. I wrote at least a page or two down and then went back to sleep. The rest of the night I had another three or four dreams in quick succession. It was amazing. I guess you can say that I had opened the dream floodgates and they were pouring forth. The universe must have decided to pack in all the dreams I hadn’t been paying attention to over the proceeding months. I have to admit though by the time I woke up I didn’t feel as rested as usual. Dreaming turned out to be a lot of work that night. But I was glad that I had finally reconnected.

The next couple of days I could remember snippets of the dreams but nothing really worth writing down. Then again last night I focused on the intention of writing them down and went through a similar preparation process as before. And again it worked amazingly. I probable had four or five dreams last night which I was able to write down. I think the other important thing to do as well is to write down any details that you can remember even if they are just loosely connected images or thoughts. This again provides the action behind your intention. I also believe that by starting to write down these small parts it will eventually help you to remember more and more. Eventually, you should be able to remember the entire dream or at least the most significant parts of the dreams which is usually where messages are contained.

So now I once again look back to figure out why I was having trouble in the first place. I think there are a couple of answers to this question. One of them is that it seems that I was making a judgment about the dreams as to their worthiness which I now find interesting. If I had a dream or remembered parts of a dream that I didn’t think was worth writing down then I wouldn’t bother. I can see now how this would make it difficult because now I am putting out into the universe that I only want to remember dreams that I deem important. I also think that there was a part of me that simple wasn’t taking the time to bring my attention to my dreams. It’s as if I was only half there. I was dreaming and could see the images and stuff, but I wasn’t fully present to be able to remember what the dream really was. It’s like when you were in school and a teacher was talking. Sometimes you get distracted and look out the window. Now while you’re looking out the window she is still talking so you’re picking up her words, but only partially. You’re not fully present. So when class is over and someone asks what she said, you wouldn’t have a clue. Well I wasn’t paying full attention so I wasn’t getting all the information.

Well I decided that I would share this with my fellow dreamers out there just in case they are having a dreamer’s block as well.

Here’s to having some wild and wonderful dreams!!
