During the course of a day, nearly everybody has opportunties to react with other people.... " It is how we act or react with others that shows our upbring..." My dear ole Grandmotther used to say... We called her BigMama, but not for the normal reasons for such a name.... Rather Since I am the oldest grandchild, my mother, was Mama, and in my wee brain, then the older lady must be Big Mama.... So the name stuck, and she was not a large lady....
Since my nearly worthless father, more on him later, {that is a book in it self} was gone most of the time, and my mother was a RN, she had to support my brother and i.... Well we were at Big Mama's a lot up til the 5th grade, and even the summer before the 8th grade... down in south GA.... Peanuts, peaches, pigs, pecans, and poultry or the (5) five Pees as we called it....
One thing we were taught was to respect others, and mind you manners.... So what are manners anyway?? Well we would only speak when everyone was through talking, wash up be for diner if you had been outside playing with the dog(s), ect..... Now we always said please, and thank you.... Yes Ma'am to the ladies, anybody female over about 15 years... Yes sir to all older males...
But the hardest lesson to learn for young boys, {maybe boys/men of any age is how to treat a lady); this took many sit down talking toos.... My grand parents were pure southern folk... They did not cotton to anyone coming around, just a beating his gums..... Yankees were great about such... Well today i was emailing a lady friend, and plum forgot what Big Mama had taught us boys, about how to treat a lady...
The First rule was: To never ask a lady her personal business, because Big Mama said that " If she wanted you to know she will tell you about it.." And that is where i stepped on the hornets nest today..... By the way the first rule almost was like the last rule ....which is learn to " Mind your own busisness..." Most women would just say "Never you mind, boy" and we would know to shut our mouth... So today Big Mama's teaching came home.... I told my lady friend that i was real sorry to have butted into this lady's personal business..... I think she forgave me, and i may still be on her bithday list..... I hope!!
Of course there is a lot of different things that make up all the proper manners, like not picking your nose at the supper table, and not calling someone names... ect!! We will not have the opportunity to discuss all them manners, but if you needs to know some more just let us know and we will tell'm to y'all....
