Blog: BV - Bacterial Vaginosis
It seems my symptoms are gone right now, which is great! I haven't gone for more than a couple days symptom free in a long time, at least since having that IUD out. The last thing I did was a dose of the Rephresh gel and I've still been taking the Reuteri every day - orally, it's been a long building process but I think this is really the most normal I've felt in the last 3 years.
Even before when I was "symptom free" I still had a heavy discharge, just not the odor. Now I don't even have that, no unusual discharge, no itching or irritation, and certainly no odor. I'm really excited, I hate to get my hopes up but I hope it lasts!

I really don't know a lot about bacteria vaginosis? However, I have been having a ordor that comes and goes and it's strong! Sometimes it's so strong, I can smell myself through my clothing? It's sort of like a musk smell? I have not been having sex, and actually I had not had sex for six and one half years (I thought this was the case), until recently. So it has been developing with in the last two years and it's really concerning me?
I was experiencing a discharge about six months or so, but now I just have the ordor. It's so embarassing! I have been afriad to have sex with anyone, until recently? I used a odor absorbent to help reduce the smell (only worked for a short time until I began to sweat), then the smell was stronger than ever! I'm not trying to disclose all of my personal business, but I want the gist of the matter to be understood?
Can someone please help me?

I'm curious if you had recently taken antibiotics for any other reasons? You can go to the doctor and they will prescribe an antibiotic for you that will take care of the problem short term but you'll probably get it again. My best advice to you, especially if this is your first problem with BV is to try to stay away from antibiotics eat as healthy as possible, get a Lactobacillus supplement and take it orally - you can get them at most health food stores or any place that sells vitamins and supplments, eat lots of yogurt in an attempt to repopulate your system with good bacteria, try RePhresh Vaginal gel - you can buy that over the counter at walgreens - that helps restore the natural acidity in your vagina, and, if that doesn't help the problem you can try inserting a chewable vitamin C tablet overnight and follow that up after a couple days with a chewable Lactobacillus supplement. I use one called L.Reuteri from a name brand called Nature's Sunshine, They dissolve without much mess and they don't leave anything behind like a coating that won't dissolve. We have a health food store in town that carries that brand but I know you can get them on the internet.
Good Luck.

I had a similar problem and learned that probiotics are helpful.

I don't have to deal with the odor, my biggest problem is the swelling and burning. Any advice?
