Blog: BV - Bacterial Vaginosis
I used the Vitamin C treatment for one night and luckily have the odor under control again, it's been 3 days since and no odor.
It's got to be obvious to doctors that inserting some foreign object in the uterus could be a breeding ground for bacteria and I question what the positive outcome of leaching copper into your system could be... Other than preventing pregnancy of course, hmmmm let's see, rat poison or arsenic or lead or mercury would probably kill sperm also but do I want any of that in my system? I can't believe I ever got talked into that!
Also, my normal discharge was especially heavy and thick while i had the IUD in, I know you all wanted to hear that graphic detail, but it worried me because there was so much - since it is your vaginas natural method of cleaning itself, it seemed like my body was trying to very aggressively clean and rid itself of something - the IUD and when it came time for it to come out, my body let it go easily. Thank goodness nothing bad happened while it was in and I guess (hope) I got it out before any damage was done to my body. I can't believe they approve leaving those in place for 10 years!

I am so happy you got that thing out of your womb. You can do a wheatgrass douche or an apple cider vinegar douche and do castor oil packs to help your womb detox. Drink some red rasberry tea. She'll love that :-)

Good for you! IUDs and hormone birth control scare me. I used nfp for 10 years successfully. There actually are courses you can take which include a workbook and lessons on how to check your mucus and other signs to look for to be as exact in timing as possible. Although it seems simple, it's risky unless your sure so you want as much info as you can get. good luck!
I am not having much luck with the vitamin C method. The BV is definitely better, but still around. No odor, until sex. I'm thinking about going to the hydrogen peroxide. Any thoughts there?
Thanks.

I found a hydrogen peroxide douche definitely helped neutralize the odor immediately. I worried a bit about the good and natural flora and whether or not the hydrogen peroxide was inhibiting its regrowth.
Of all the reading I've done though, I've read that things about Vitamin C and Hydrogen peroxide working together naturally in the body to fight off unwelcome bacteria. I'd have to go research the exact article to see what it says --- but what I remember is that your body's natural method of fighting "invaders" for lack of a better word is a complicated play of things including different species of Lactobacillus which actually produce their own Hydrogen Peroxide - and Vitamin C also converts to another substance that fights disease and kills bacteria or raises the acidity level thereby killing bacteria. I'd have to read up again on the exact action of Vitamin C in the body that makes it useful in fighting disease and building the immune system - the action it takes inside the body helps explain, and helps you understand how and why it's used, so you can figure out what the best method would be to fight the BV. Hope that makes some sense.

Here's a few websites I found searching that offer alternative methods of BV treatment.

I have found that Acid Jelly works well at restoring the vaginal ph balance. The pro's are it has NO physical side effects and it is inexpensive. Cons are it is only by prescription and it has a strong vinegar smell (better than the fishy smell, though.) My gyn. writes my scr1pt out for 6 refills, so I don't have to pay for a doctor visit everytime my symptoms recur. It's the best treatment I have tried, though it doesn't stop reoccurences... but what does?

I asked my Gyn for this stuff and she flat refused me a prescription. She said it wouldn't help at all and I didn't know what I was talking about.

Well, After 3 days of Vitamin C (not quite a complete solution, I tried Hydrogen Peroxide twice. And, totally amazing!!! For the first time in almost a year I am completely clean!! I have used RePhresh twice to stablize, which is once every three days, but remain completely clean....I feel a miracle has occurred.
Happiness in the sex area has been restored between me and my beloved...but for how long?? At least, I have the strength to continue the fight.
I cannot thank everyone on this blog enough. The support and information here has been amazing. My Gyn knows nothing. You women know so much more. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

What is RePhresh? Maybe that is the missing piece of the Hydrogen Peroxide puzzle for me. I found H3O worked very well and was refreshing and cool and soothing but always a recurrence.

It happened to me once after using a hydrogen peroxide wash - I think that what happened was that it's too strong right now, you're probably irritated from the BV and the Vitamin C is too strong right now for you to use. I wouldn't use it anymore, try something more soothing like the Apple Cider Vinegar Douche that other people have suggested.

always listen to what your body is telling you, everyone is different.

I am new to this site and have been reading wonderful info about trying to find a cure for this bv. I too am new suffer and decided to try the vit c method. I had a bloddy dicharge as well and it has really concerned me. I was wondering how long in anyone elses experience it lasted and were there other side effects. I used a hydrogen peroxide wash the morning following a 2 night use of vit c to see if that would help with the bloody discharge. I dont have the odor or itching, just the discharge associated with my bv.
