Blog: BV - Bacterial Vaginosis
So, to finish my last series of thoughts..
After the recent changes i.e. adding fiber, trying to improve my eating habits, etc. I do feel better. My face is clearing up, and everything seems to be working properly again, then the BV problem gets worse again.
Now, mind you, it never has completely gone away in the last 2 years. It may improve, it may disappear with antibiotics (and my doctor would say every time - 'oh! it's back again!') They just don't get it. It never really was healed! My body is still screaming for balance--there is something missing that antibiotics don't replace and killing more bacteria obviously isn't the answer here folks.
Ok, my lifestyle is all over the place. I'm a Mom so the one thing you can count on is that I'm always busy. I'm not big into hanging out at the bars, I don't watch much TV, I play silly computer games - tetris type stuff - mind-numbing fodder! I should be reading a book. Anyway, I also make beaded jewelry. My lifestyle in itself is not unhealthy other than my eating habits, which are now on the chopping block.
So, 2 days into Vitamin C treatment now, things seem to be going well. There's some hope, Decieving maybe, that right now the annoying symptoms are at bay and I feel good. The true test is when I stop the Vitamin C in a week or so and monitor things.
The questions are: Will the symptoms return? does sex cause them to return? Does some other activity cause them to return (such as swimming, bike riding, hot weather / sweating), How long before they return?
Secondly, I am asking myself if I should try some sort of replenishing therapy like vaginal lactobacillus after a week of Vitamin C? The theory being that if the presence of the "bad" bacteria are low and then I introduce the "good guys" they may get a foothold and be able to re-balance my system. I have tried this before without success. The secret is getting the right kind of lactobacillus that produces hydrogen peroxide - Lactobacillus Jensenii is one, I forget the other - but that is the real key. I have looked and looked for a supplement that has one of the two specific Lacto strains and found nothing. It seems my efforts are futile (and messy, awkward, and uncomfortable) without the proper strain of Lacto.

Hi,
There's a new product that contains the vaginal tract acidophilus. It's called fem-dophilus.
Fem-dophilus™ contains two patented and clinically proven probiotic strains, Lactobacillus GR-1™** and Lactobacillus RC-14™** discovered and developed by Dr. Gregor Reid and Dr. Andrew Bruce at Urex Biotech. Over 20 years of research supports the oral use of GR-1 and RC-14 to colonize and protect the vaginal tract.
you can find it here

I too have been suffering with Bacterial Vaginosis for 2 years. I have tried everything under the sun including Flagyl, Metranizadole, Clindamycin, vaginal douches with Chinese herbs, vaginal inserts, grapefruit extract, oregano oil and now I am onto colloidal silver. Everything seems to be making the condition a bit better but it is a long and arduous process. I have a good feeling about the colloidal silver as this is something I feel is curing not just managing my condition. I think mine had spread into my fallopian tubes as I was feeling a sensation that is hard to describe there all the time. This was an advanced case by the time they misdiagnosed me 4 times. I was advised to take 1 tablespoon of the colloidal 3 times per day in a glass of distilled water (buy at the grocery store). This is the 20 ppm silver - get the highest ppm you can find. Silver cures low grade infections that refuse to clear up on their own. Lord knows my immune system has been taking a beating trying to get rid of this condition. The external itch is starting to become less and less all the time. I notice it about once a day now sometimes twice. One Key thing to remember - you must use a plastic spoon to measure and stir the silver into your water as silver spoons will neautralize the colloidal. I would love to know if anyone else has tried this course of treatment. The people at Colloidal silver whom I contacted directly said if your have chronic and systemic (meaning that bacteria is in your whole body) it may take several weeks to get rid of it completely. I am going into week four and have been getting better each week. The annoying rectal itch that accompanies bv seems to be going away as well so I know the bacteria are slowing getting reduced by the silver. They advised me to continue with treatment one week after any external itching symptoms dissappear which I plan to exceed just to be on the safe side. Silver has virtually no taste, not like the grapefruit seed or oregano oil I was ingesting which were managing but not curing the condition. I would love to hear with anyone who has had success with colloidal and curing their condition.

Hi, very interesting about the colloidal silver. I, of course, suffer from B.V. as well. And it looks like from the stuff I've been reading on this sight I'm just a beginner at it compared to you guys. I had my first round with it back in Feb. of '05. That time, of course not knowing any better I went to my Dr. and got a metronidazole prescription. It worked for quite a while but then the symptoms came back. Now I can go in & get a clanimyicin (or however you spell that) prescription, use it faithfully for the seven days and literally three days after I'm done using it my symptoms are back. So I started researching this myself & found this sight. Alot of the stuff I've read on here has not been very encouraging but when I read what you wrote about the silver it peaked my interest. Did it work for you? Where did you get it from? I'm from Canada, do you know where it would be available up here? Anything you can tell me would be a huge help. I just want to get better.

Post this in the new BV forum - you'll probably get more responses there. Reference the previous post about the colloidal silver with a link...
Thanks!
