Blog: Make Your Own Shampoo
To make your own natural shampoo, you will need to create a shampoo base first:
Ingredients you will need for the shampoo base:
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup castile soap
1/2 teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil
This makes 1/2 cup of concentrated shampoo. Mix together all ingredients and place into shampoo bottle.
The next step is to add your own custom essential oils, herbs, or spices. Here are some examples:
Ingredients for a Lavender Shampoo:
1/2 cup shampoo base
2 tablespoons of glycerin
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup fresh lavender
5 drops of lavender essential oil
Mix water and lavender together into a heavy bottom pot and bring to a boil. Let boil gently for at least twenty minutes. Let cool slightly and add basic shampoo mixture and glycerin slowly to herbal mixture. Mix well. Pour shampoo into container and let stand for a few days to allow the mixture to thicken. Use as you would your regular shampoo.
Ingredients for a Pumpkin Pie Shampoo:
1 cup of shampoo base
2 tablespoon glycerin
1/2 cup water
2 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice
Mix pie spice and water in a heavy bottomed pot and bring to a boil. Let boil gently for at least twenty minutes. Allow to cool slightly and add basic shampoo mixture and glycerin. Mix well. Use as you would your regular shampoo.

- 4 ingredients for all natural cleaning? by YourEnchantedGardener

Hi RisingSun,
I was reading an article on the web by Bill Mollison,
the founder of Permaculture, design with nature.
He was saying that one of his students went off
into the bush in Australia, so to speak, and came
back with the revelation that there were four basic
cleaning agents that were essential for cleaning.
I am not sure if that was for the body as well
as the environment.
He said that if you take away the photos of
Dolphins and the coloring that just goes down
the toilet, You are left with these four basics."
http://www.context.org/ICLIB/IC28/Mollison.htm
I would like to know what they were and how to use them--
in what proportions.
I wonder if you could do some research of this
and write a Blog.
"For example, one of the people I had trained in 1983, Janet McKinsey, disappeared with a friend into the bush - two women with children. They decided they could cut down their needs a lot, and they made a very scientific study of how to do that in their own houses. They've now started something called "Home Options for Preservation of the Environment" - HOPE.
They point out, for example, that there are only four things in all cleaners - whether it's shampoo, laundry detergent, whatever. You buy them in bulk and you mix them up properly, and they all work. It doesn't matter if they call the stuff ecologically friendly or have dolphins diving around on the label - it still has these damn four things in it. Anything else is just unnecessary additions to make it smell good or color it blue when it goes down the toilet."
