I have read reports of impending global disaster for decades, and taken many with a grain of salt. But I always keep an eye on current events in light of Bible prophecy. One thing I've learned is that God always prepares his people for what is about to happen, sometimes decades in advance.
Well, it's been decades.
Before WWII, anyone who believe Israel would ever again be a nation (as many Bible scholars did) was viewed with contempt, yet arise they did, as of 1948. That was a major prophetic sign. Since then we've seen efforts at a working global government accelerated, along with an exponential increase in technology, increased frequency and intensity of natural disasters, and rampant occultism and ecumenism.
Lately there's been a marked increase in "traffic" among the cults and government watchers concerning impending doom for all mankind, with economic crises at the forefront. And I think I can guess a possible scenario from that.
I believe firmly in a pre-trib Rapture, where Christians all over the world are suddenly removed from earth by God in an instant, before he restarts the prophecy of Daniel concerning Israel's "70 weeks" of years. What better setup for this to happen than a global economic collapse!
For some time, Bible students have tried to imagine what story the antichrist would spin to explain away this event. Possibilities included blaming it on space aliens or mass illusions, but now I think the political/economic scenario is looking more promising.
As the markets (and governments) are coming down, millions of people suddenly vanish, causing even more panic. But along comes a global leader who assures the world that he has everything under control. It was HE who took away those people, who were holding the rest of us back, causing all these problems. Now, aside from a few stragglers who need to be routed out, we can finally achieve Peace.
Note: the "stragglers" are those who become Christians after the Rapture, not "backslidden" believers.
Now I'm not saying this is definite, or that there won't be other near-disasters first, or that I have an infallible gift of prophecy. All I'm saying is that this could be the last one, all things considered.
Just a hunch.
