IF I AM EXHAUSTED, I AM PLAYING A ROLE
Many of us get thrown into exhausting situations in which we burn
out, because we are acting out our beliefs about how we should be. When
we act out of our roles, rules, and duties, we may be doing the right
thing for the wrong reason; acting out of habit instead of choice. This
has us do things that are unnecessary, do things to avoid certain
feelings, or do things to keep us from receiving good things. Choice
energises us. When we feel most exhausted, we can set small goals for ourself.
Each time we reach that little goal, it allows us to gain more energy.
To change a role into a place of giving/receiving and energy, we choose
to do what we are doing, rather than doing it because we are supposed
to. Be willing to do the right thing for the right reason.
Today, look at a place where you feel exhausted. Now, imagine
that this exhausted self is really some kind of mask or costume. Remove
the mask, and see who is there. You may find a family member, a monster,
a little child, or even yourself in need of support, dealing with some
painful feeling. Ask how you can help and respond to that need. Imagine
holding yourself or whomever it is, while supporting and coaching
yourself or them. As you love them, let them melt into you. This will fill a
gap in you, and some place where you have been in conflict will heal
with the energy that now begins working for you.
