"Communication is life" because (real) communication is connection - a connection that allows life to circulate freely without resistance/repression/suppression (or worse) that inhibits the flow/expression of life.

One of my (previous) business cards says: "The Secret of Life Is In Your Communication". That was based on an axiom: "Communications is life" that I had adopted as of about the mid 80's from my best friend at that time: David Weisman. Over the course of about 28 years I have continued to identify with this axiom and included it in identifying with "The Four Agreements" (as presented by Ruiz), especially: "Be Impeccable With Your Word" which I had declared was my agreement in all my relations as of several ago. However, today I am "upgrading" things. The reason why may be material for a book. What I can say here is that the "axiom": "Communication is life" is the main thing that needed to be "upgraded". The upgrade for me is: "Communication with my Higher Self is Life!"
