It's amazing to think I'm almost there!!!

Yesterday I took a whole heap of book to work to take them to an antiquarian, and I actually sold a few for €8. What a good start! However I ended up carrying the rest of the books all around the city in an attempt to find other places that would accept the books, to no avail. Today my muscles are sore, but I couldn't allow that to stop me from bringing two huge bags of clothes and stuff with me. Yesterday I had to go through the little of possessions I own to find something, anything, to sell. Today I went to a second hand store but the clerk adviced most such stores only accept donations, they won't buy anything off me. Bugger. Dead end. But I've still got some more books, and a stack of CDs that might - all together - pay me a euro or two. We'll see.
I found out the next time I'll be paid is in a month and a half. That almost made me lose it, in the I-so-could-cry-right-now-if-ever way. I've got €10 for six weeks to spend on my raw food (I absolutely definitely refuse to give in on my diet, I will not resort into canned tuna and macaroni and all that poop just because all my savings went to moving houses, applying for schools and changing companies). I also wouldn't like to borrow money off anyone until I really REALLY need to. So I collected some recyclable bottles and got a few euros off those (Finland has very cool recycling system especially for bottles - the store prices are all a bit higher, but they include a deposit one gets back upon returning the bottles). Dad promised some zucchini and beans from his garden patch, too, when they are ready by the end of June. I'll make it, somehow. I'm pretty sure I'll be getting some money off my previous employer by then, too. All I'm really concerned over is being able to pay my rent in time, and even that can probably be arranged. Food is a close second, and if worst comes to worst, I'll call my brother for some monetary assistance.
Ohh, it's such a drag to have such dramatic changes in one's salary arrangements.

But all in all I've been on a much cheerier mood today than on Tuesday! Then I was irritable and tired, now I'm tired both mentally and physically but much more optimistic. Yesterday went within relatively high spirits, also, but towards the end I was really getting tired, and by the time I got my clothes from dad's place (I probably mentioned I don't have a washing machine yet), I could barely keep my eyes open and the frown from my face. Still I had to sort some books and clothes out before going to bed - late, again. So yeah I'm only happy today's better. I even managed to forget for a moment that I've got tomorrow off for the last exams. It should be fun enough, I hope!
Which reminds me, I really need to sort out my buses there and back before I leave work in 10 minutes... So I gotta go!

But as a last note I must say the funny feeling in my throat is back, and I'm constantly swallowing. I've figured it might be because my juices have a little pulp left.
Oh, and during the fast I've noticed my tongue get coated, but it's much easier to clean off than when I'm eating. Yay.

Hi Jo, thank you for your recommendations on visiting "up North". I'm especially intrigued about Lapland. That has always seemed like almost an imaginary place for reindeer rather than somewhere you could actually visit.

One thing I am interested in is how accepted and how available is colon cleansing in Finland? Is colon hydrotherapy (colonics) something that is available there, and if so is it considered an important part of natural health care?

You mentioned in an earlier posting that a friend who was going to join you in your fast might back out if enemas were an essential part of a successful fast. Is that a common perception of enemas there?

I'm interested because I am a certified colon therapist and working in the office of a naturopathic physician where I give colonics every day, as well as enemas as ordered by the doctor. Sometimes when I'm out with friends and meet new people and tell them what I do they react like "You're kidding aren't you!". But not infrequently these very people will seek me out privately afterwards, eager for more information.

But here in the USA, both professionally administered colonics as well as home enemas for personal health and beauty care have had a revival in popularity during the past 2 decades. I give a lot of credit for that to the late Princess Diana, who was a very enthusiastic user of regular colonics, and not afraid to discuss it and credit colon cleansing with helping relieve stress and keep her skin and hair glowing.

I was saddened when we lost her.

Jo, by the time you read this you should be very close to the end of your current fast and I can't tell you how inspired I am by you staying with this during the past month through the ups and downs. I know that I'm not the only one here on Curezone who feels that way!

      Congratulations!!!

      Valerie

To be honest, I haven't really looked into services such as your profession as of yet. I know it was getting quite popular in Australia, but yeah, I've definitely come across experiences very similar to yours - many people have been inspired by my fasting experiences and have independently seeked for information, only to return discouraged because of needing to have an enema. So far it's been very hard to affect people's opinions, it takes a combination of personal experience, sense of humour, and gentle psychology. I reckon I haven't quite assured anyone just yet, but then again, they have all been beginners with self-healing. There are many others out there who are more into these things, and have a broader understanding.

Natural Health is a bit of a different industry in this part of the world, majorly since our diets are somewhat different. More old folk's common knowledge seems to be naturally accepted, and that's definitely one of the advantages of living somewhere so remote from most global healing trends.

I surely am glad for having so many people already follow these fasting adventures, that was exactly the point. Maybe less people will have such antipathies towards fasting, including colonics, from now on!

Hi Jo, I appreciate your follow-up to my questions and thank you for your descr*iption of some of the attitudes toward natural health practices in your home country. Although I am an enthusiastic advocate of colonics, and had been using them myself for several years before I entered the profession, I still am a firm believer in the personal health benefits of the old fashioned enema.

My enema bag hangs on the back of my bathroom door, and despite the option to have colonics as desired, I generally take enemas much more frequently, and am actually looking forward to one as soon as I send this message before going to bed.

Periodic enemas are good for almost anyone of any age, pediatric to geriatric, especially with all the fast foods, junk foods, processed foods and the likes of what the average person in the USA eats as a normal practice.

So I encourage you to continue to use gentle enemas as you feel you need. As one of the Registered Nurses during my colonic training always said "Listen to your body - if you feel that an enema might help, it probably will. It can't hurt, it can only help".

Congratulations for sticking with your fast to the very end as you originally planned!

          Sincerely, Valerie

P.S. You are so fortunate in Finland with the availability of pure water out of your tap!!!

Thank you for your interest all through my endeavour, Valerie, and thank you for all the insightful comments and suggestions. Your experiences on enemas have definitely helped me, and I've already started to spread this knowledge in my quest to change people's prejudiced attitudes towards enemas, as a part of a fast and also as a part of a healthy lifestyle. My mum's already converted!

If I may emphasise an opinion already voiced, there are so many wonderful, clean, nature-filled countries in the world to explore. You'll have a great time enjoying global goodies!
