Cascara sagrada is a herbal laxative. It stimulates peristalsis of the large intestine. It can be habit forming though so I never use it.

Perhaps the doctor used it in this study instead of Epsom Salts , I'm not sure, I've never seen it as part of any Liver Flush protocol.
