Ohh, what she's showing me is this hole is in the 'side' of the universe. These develop as the universe expands and put a lot of stress on the fabric. It's a lot like a hole in a space ship. The 'hole' goes out to the nothingness of the in between, where they can put new universes. It is really nothingness exactly like you describe.
Getting sucked out through one of these, that really would be the end of you, because there's no way to get back in again. It's mostly a one way hole, because the pressure of space is so much greater than the pressure of absolutely nothing. It had a quality of the wormhole at the end of Farscape which she's showed me for comparison. It does and is growing albeit far slower than that.
The overarching sentience of the universe is trying to figure out how to stop it (they really don't know everything). Maybe it's thinking you might be able to help---or someone you know or will know might help. At least that's the information I'm getting.
