Why Poor People eat Bad Food...
(Ren's Holistic Fitness and Life Journal)
my ongoing study/personal views on being healthy with a limited budget

Seeing as how finances and not having my own home played a large part in me leaving bootcamp, I'm going to investigate this in depth. As I had explained to one of the ladies in the group, I left to pursue my goals of paying down my debt and getting out of my FIL's house. Debt really is evil. It's why I can't buy myself the very best food and supplements. Even if I'm just eating raw fruits, I still need money to buy a variety. I'd never join a gym ever but I sure do want to build my own steamroom and sauna. When I lived in da hood, the sistahs I knew had their 'priorities' in order, that is making sure that they had the plus fifty dollars a week to get hair and nails done. Okay so sure I'd see them eating hotwings with ranch dressing but we all follow our bliss don't we??? Now that I live in a completely different sort of area, I see the same mentality except in other areas which says to me that health isn't a function of so-called 'race' but it's class and a state of mind. The only poor people I knew that exercised were the ex-cons I worked out with at my old gym. Even then, those guys were making some money on the side being bouncers for clubs, etc.
So how do you live in America without health insurance and funds? I have the opportunity to get health insurance through my job but that means sixty dollars out of my check every pay period. Is it worth it? It's too bad that insurance and welfare doesn't pay for vitamins and supplements. I'd never go on welfare but I wish that insurance would pay for things that PREVENT disease. When you get sick with cancer and they see the THOUSANDS of dollars it costs, they DON'T want to pay.
