How are the teens you know communicating, and with whom??? IM is a fact of life in the modern age, ready or not....

To the new generation, {10 to 19} think email is "so last gereration"... Many of the teens today, rely on wireless IM.... {Instant Messaging} They are into this " go any where technology..." The question is why does a teen need this type of IM?? Or too much email for that matter.... We have not even considered the cell fons.... "Because it is out there" is not the correct answer folks...
Each parent has to decide where to draw the line of this techno-childhood... All parents should have some control over the so called " Buddy List", and review it on a regular bacics... Like everything in life there needs to be some type control or it will soon be out of control.... {This is true for just about everything in life folks...}
Fact: one in four teens receive some kind of sexua| solicitation using the INTERNET... Study by U of New Hampshire's; Crimes Against Research Center.... Also one third of the teens 13 to 17 have internet access in their bedroom, according to Gallup....
Now lets look at a list "Say What"; from pp 152, "Woman's Day" 02 August 2005... The new lingo uses an acronyms that the parents do not really understand... Consider these:
1) POS: Parent over shoulder!
2) PAW: Parents are watching!
3) SUYF: Shut up, you fool!
4) RUOK: Are you OK?
5) NIFOC: Naked in front of computer!
6) RUMORF: Are you male or female?
Should be a wake up call for all those who need to know.... Do you know where your teen is now? Are they on IM? If so who are they contacting?
See what you can do with this information; dear parents and guardians...
