Whole Foods Helps Women
(Plant Your Dream!)

Whole Foods Helps Women by YourEnchantedGardener .....

Whole Foods and its Whole Planet Foundation kick off drive to raise up Women.

Date:   10/29/2005 12:26:54 PM ( 19 y ago)

Shifted into Conference Prep mode yesterday.
I will complete some basics today.

I got a BIG YES from Whole Foods
who will gift the Pacific Symposium with one beautiful floral display
for the podium.

I am deeply moved reading a promo piece
from their WHOLE PLANET FOUNDATION
that I picked up in the Hillcrest Whole Foods Store
the other day.

On October 25 they gave
5% of proceeds at each of their stores across the country
to fight Poverty by "empowering those who are in it."

They will provide entrepeneurial opportunities for the poor
in developing countries where they do business.

On October 25 the 5% went to find micro-loans for poor women
in developing countries. The aim is to help the women
rise out of poverty, educate themselves, and their children
and contribute meaningfully to the the economic and soical health
of their communities.

According to Whole Foods, literature, they will provide Micro-Loans
--usually $200.00 or less--to poor women, initially in Costa Rica and Guatamala. "Micro loans is a proven method of enabling the poor to life themselves out of poverty. Loan repayments money remains in the borrower's village to create a self funding, sustainable program that will continue to generate additional
micro-loans and further improve their community economic health."

"women make up the majority of the poor
and are the more economically and socially marginalized. And yet,
they have the greatest impact on their communities when given access
to credit with which they can start small home-based businesses.
Given them lonans and a support system, instead of chairty,
these women are empowered to use creativity to change their own lives.
While one borrower might use a loan to purchase a sewing machines in order
to make clothing to sell, another might buy a goat to being a milk and cheese
production business. Their life, their choice, their opportunity out of poverty..":
