Heroines/Heroes
(Plant Your Dream!)

Heroines/Heroes by YourEnchantedGardener .....

New Heroines/New Heroes Green Lodging Program is adds to Sustainable Living in California. HIlton San Diego Resort is to be commended.

Date:   8/14/2005 10:13:08 AM ( 19 y ago)

I am feeling heart tugs this morning
for a new environmental heroine of mine
Rosario Marin, the former US Treasurer
under George W. Bush. She is now the
current head of the California Integrated Waste Management
Board and its stunningly innovative Green Lodgiing
Program.

Rosario Marin, was in a meeting at the HIlton
San Diego Resort on August 5, the morning that
I welcomed more than 400 attendees, including
60 Sustainable Living Global Innovators
to the International\ Feng Shui Conference.

Rosario that morning was meeting with another
hero of mine, Matthew J. Hart, President and Chief Operating
Officer, Hilton Hotels Corporation. He flew in the attend
a planning session to advance the Green Lodging Program
at Your Enchanted Gardener's favorite benchmark Hilton
in the 2300 Hotel Chain.

Donna Frye, of the San Diego City Council, was also among
those in attendance at the meeting, that also invited
San Diego County Supervisors, and State Senator
Christine Kehoe (D-San Diego), and Assemby Member
Lori Saldana (D-San Diego).

This meeting advanced my friend
California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger Green Lodging Program

I call my Terminator Governor Arnold a friend
though we have not yet scheduled a meeting between us.
Any Governor who advances Enchanted Garden ideals
is a friend of mine. I know when we meet, we will
see eye to eye on a number of issues that will help
our advance local organic family farming.

Matthew Hart also receives my accolades.

The Hilton San Diego Resort is participating
on the Leadership Level of the Green Lodging
Program. It has an environmental
policy in place.

I know that the Enchanted Garden
is just beginning to Co-partner innovations within the HIlton
San Diego Resort.

The three days of " Organic Celebration at the Hilton"
in alliance with many other Enchanted Garden Sponsors
and Members, signaled not a one-time event, but the opening
of a long term relationship of mutual creative advancements.

Levels

I celebrate with the hundreds of attendees
at the International Feng Shui Conference
he Hilton San Diego Resort.

We thank the HIlton San Diego Resort
for outstanding service during our stay,
and for its participation as a California hospitality
industry leader in Rosario Marin's Green Lodging Program.

The Hilton San Diego Resort has a
written environmental policy in place that
meet sall seven of the program's criteria:

* Waste minimization.
* Reuse/recycling.
* Energy efficiency.
* Conservation and management.
* Waste management.
* Freshwater resource management.
* Hazardous materials management.
* Environmentally and socially sensitive purchasing policies.
One of the Seven keys of the state

"Organic Celebration with the Hilton!"
August 5-6-7, a co-partnership between the Enchanted Garden,
Hilton, and many other generous Enchanted Garden sponsors,
was stunningly successful.

The Hilton San Diego Resort, and its outstanding staff
are to be commended for their support of
Sustainable agriculture in San Diego.

The Hilton went beyond their normal vendor policies to allow
never before products--such as farm fresh lettuce from
the fourth Generation Rodriquez Family,
Tom King farms organic watermelons, and Wright's
free range, anti-biotic free chicken.

300 meals were prepared and served.
Enthusiastic diners were taste tempted by Award Winning Chef
Hermann Schaefer's Creative offerings.

i admit--a few of the desserts left something to be desired
in the minds of some of the luncheoneers.

I take full responsibility!

It was I, not Hermann, who suggested we offer
Steven L White's "Ugly Oranges" for dessert!

Those who attended the Monday lunch--
saw more Hermann's style--
Chocalate Mousse.

FROM THE OFFICE OF PUBLIC AFFAIRS
April 1, 2003

Prepared Remarks of
The Honorable Rosario Marin
Treasurer of the United States
The California State Society Golden State Roundtable Luncheon
The Capitol Hill Club
Washington, DC

  "Everybody knows that there’s no State Society in Washington more active than California’s - and each of us is incredibly grateful to each of you for your efforts. Please join me in recognizing the work of these individuals for doing so much to keep this important voice for California’s interests alive and active in our nation’s capital.

It would be an honor for any person to stand here, literally in the shadow of the United States Capitol, to speak to their home State Society. But for me, it’s a very special privilege because this place is a long way from where I came from, as a little girl from Mexico City who came to this country with my mother and father.

I was 14. I couldn’t even pronounce “U.S. Capitol,” much less draw you a picture of it. And the biggest thing on my mind was that I was going to miss my “Quinceañera” Coming of Age Fiesta.

But my mother and my father taught us something special.  That in this country, you can do whatever you want to do. You can go wherever your dreams take you.  In America, they said, they don’t care who your parents and grandparents were, or where you came from, or whether you speak with an accent.  Not if you show up on time, not if you work hard, not if you’re willing to live by the rules. And we did. Just like each one of you. We overcame obstacles.  Just like each one of you did. And people reached out to help us.  Just like someone has helped you in your lives.

And today, in America, that little girl form Mexico City, who couldn’t even introduce her self in English, much less pledge allegiance to the Flag - that same little girl today holds the oldest office in the American government and is treasurer of the freest and most vibrant economy on earth.

I am so proud to be an American. I’m particularly grateful to President Bush for allowing me to serve at a time and in an Administration where we have more Latinos serving this country than any previous time in history.

And as one who owes everything I have and everything I am to California, it’s especially grateful for me to be able to do my small part on behalf of my fellow Californians.

Lord knows, our state cries out for it"
--Rosario Marin, director of the
California Integrated Waste Management Board
