Worm Bin Program
(Plant Your Dream!)

Worm Bin Program by YourEnchantedGardener .....

More on Earthworms....

Date:   7/13/2005 2:18:04 PM ( 19 y ago)

I made some new friends and allies
at the last Hillcrest Farmers' Market
on Sunday, 9-1 PM at the DMV:
The folks from Davis Farms.

They have some very important values
for contributing to San Diego becoming
a Sustainable living City, raising earthworms
and selling worm castings, an excellent
supplement or all vegetables and trees.

They are a new Enchanted Garden Sponsor.
They gave me a bag of their wonderful worm castings,
some that will go into the herb garden of Hermann Schaefer,
at the HIlton San Diego Resort
where we have the international Feng Shui Conference
Aug. 5-6-7
with pre and post conference workshops
Aug 4 & 8.

The Conference will also feature
A Day in the Garden, here at the
Enchanted Garden Intentional Community,
12-4 August 9. We will sit in a circle and reflect
on the new emerging model of healing that
is being asked by our Earth. Feng Shui--
an umbrells for this model has many of the
components of a new Vital Energy way of viewing
life from inner to outer Sustainable living.
Please RSVP at Plantyourdream@cox.net.
The day will have a potluck. Participants, teachers, and folks
from the San Diego community are all invited.
Please bring a vegetarian potluck.

I know that if more and more companies head
in the sustainable Living direction, we will fulfill
the design for San Diego and other cities
following principles of sustainable living.

Here is the paragraph from the
information for the Organic Celebration
at the HIlton lunches, August 5-7.

Organic Celebration

I learned a lot more about earthworms from
Sarah Prentice and Barbara Magee,
who work wtiht Larry Davis, Suandra Davis,
Tom Prentice, and Janette Stone, Michelle and Ben Godfrey
at this extended family run business.

They definitely have the best interests of humanity
at heart as reflected in this information their site below.

I learned that the earthworms remove toxins from
fthe environment.
They process all kinds of bacteria naturally as well.

A red wiggler worm lives for 18 months.
They do two things, eat and procreate,
but not at the same time. Each worm has
both male and female sex organs, but
they couple to mate.

The Davis team feeds the worms cocoanut husks
and good quality manure every three weeks.
This gives them enought time between feedings to
procreate.

They will eat anything beside animal proteins.
They will eat paper as well.

They also told me that the City of San Diego is well
aware of earthworms as a solution or recycling
waste.

The city offers a worm bin for $35.00 or so, a four drawer
worm bin to get more people into worm farming.

I would like to get a link for this, but do not have it now.

Here is the website for Davis Farms.

This is from their website:

DAVIS FARMS is a business formed by an extended-family of avid gardeners who hold the core belief in creating a strong, environmentally healthy community. This core belief comes from the personal experience of two sisters who beat cancer. With no cancer history in their family, they and their doctors believed that their cancer was environmentally caused. Vowing to do something more with their survival, these women and their families set out to make people aware of the toxins we put in our own backyards. They created DAVIS FARMS with the intent to offer a non-toxic alternative for the chemically-treated, sterile packaged soils, and other soil amendments that are sold in stores.

DAVIS FARMS is a licensed State Certified Producer of a wide variety of succulents, cactus, and perennials such as mountain hibiscus. DAVIS FARMS also produces their own proprietary blend of all-natural, chemical-free, non-toxic living soils and soil amendments through the use and nurturance of earthworms. They feed their worms non-hormonal, chemical-free composted materials & nutrients which in turn produces worm by-products of a superior nature. They use their own soils in all their plantings as well as packaging them for sale at Certified Farmer’s Markets. DAVIS FARMS has all necessary and appropriate California state licenses and approval for all their products.

“We believe that simple, natural, and non-patentable technologies are the solution for the environmental issues facing our world today. By providing people with the products and support needed to transform the health of their own backyards, we together can transform the world.”
