Politics=Personal Growth by YourEnchantedGardener .....

John Vasconcellos, author of the Politics of Trust, gives a beautiful message here in his book, "A liberating Vision."

"I want to enlist you in politics
and personal growth,
the natural rights--
and responsibilities--of us all.

Too many humans
are observers rather than participants in life.

I'm into taking responsibility
and living responsibility.

I want to faciliate freeing ourselves
from some myths which may be blocking
our acceptance of plitiical responsibility:

a. "All the trouble will go away,
pass me by,
or at least not engulf me."

There's plenty of human history
of people waiting,
hiding,
hoping--
and perishing on account
of their own inaction.
Let's not be naive.

b. "Someone else will do it for me,
save me the trouble,
save me from the trouble,
rescue me."

Today the planetary trouble's are so pervasive
not even the Charisma of a Kennedy
can rescue us.
We aall must participate.
If we're not part of the solution,
we're part of the problem.

c. "Someone firstr had to give me permission
to speak and act. I need ratification and/or reward."

Hopefully, the vision I propose
will enable us to recognize we don't need permission
to be ourselves, to care, to express and involve ourselves.

Too many persons in our society feel they first need permission
from soe authority to act.

Often I find myself fulfilling my responsibility
by giving other persons permission not to have to ask for permission.

d. "I don't belong in politics.
I'll feel like an intruder."

I can't let anyone make me feel I'm a freak,
outsider, intruder.
No one has exclusive right to legitimacy in politics.
I-and-you belong in poliitcs and government as
legitamely, as rightfully as anyone.

I-and you--
ought to fee legitimate,
and reclaim the trappings of legitimacy."
