You into Politics????
(Plant Your Dream!)

You into Politics???? by YourEnchantedGardener .....

I was the Enchanted Gardener of Sacramento for about ten minutes, Your Enchanted Gardener for President?

Date:   6/17/2005 11:50:10 AM ( 19 y ago)

Do you feel politically disengaged
as I have for many years???

I have a friend John Vasconcellos
who was the premiere statesman
in California politics for 38 years.
He was termed out last year as
a Senator from Silicon Valley.
His Legacy is creating
a new network called the Politics of Trust.
that is all about participatory democracy.

I met John at an event called Politics and the
New Age in the early 80's and we have
been friends since.

All this is coming up because Steve Hays
from our local newspaper
The Light Connection
is doing somthing on participatory Democracy.

I put him in touch with John
who is one of the most responsive
human beings I know.

He entered his pursuit of personal
growth at the same time he entered
politics. He was a close friend
of Carl Rogers. John was once
the Co-president of the Association
for Humanistic Psychology.

He was the man who brought Self
Esteem into the Political Arena
through this work with a commission
that was formed to look at that subject.

John's Legacy is to create a new politics
where everyone is engaged.

Around the time John came up with the idea
of the Politics of Trust, I heard him speak.
I realized how disenfrancised I felt.
When I asked John if I could come up and spend
time with him in Sacramento during his last years,
he said yes. I stayed with him in his apartment.
I trailed him for a number of days, trailing
along from everything from his early morning
Rachet ball with other senators, to the social events he did.

One eve, even though we were not dressed for the occasion,
he asked me off the cuff, to go with him to the Governor's Party.

At the Party, attended by many assembly people
and senators, who all loved John very much,
he asked me if I wanted to meet the governor.
I said yes. I did not know anything about the governor
as a politician. He was working through a budget
cruntch. I felt tremendous compassion for him and expressed it.
I liked him instantly, and he liked me.
He asked me if I wanted to be his historian for Sacramento
"No, just Enchanted Gardener!?
I said. When he heard I was interested in speaking
one of my Seven Love Cures--Because She is a Woman--
the governor introduced me to his assistant.
We met for lunch. I later attended the Governors
Conference for Women. There were 10,000 women there.
I also had took a great liking to his wife, Sharon, who
grew up in Poway. She was very kind to me.
At the Governor's Conference I arrived with flowers for
her. All day long I kept butting heads with the FBI
or some agency like that, who did not want be to get
too close to her, but we connected anyway.

Those are my favorite experiences in participatory democracy,
plus the times that John has stopped in to see me
at home when he was in town.

He is a member of the Enchanted Garden Club,
my support network.

Sometimes, when I send out a blanket mailing,
he has been the first to respond. He Emails me from
time to time, just to ask how I am doing.

Sorry to say, the Governor was not very popular and was asked to
leave office. I imagine his wife would have been very
popular if she had been governor. She has
a deep and sincere caring for children and wants to make sure they
each have a chance to read.

Anyway, I never became the Enchanted Gardener of Sacramento,
but who knows what is next?

Goldman for President?
Not sure I want the job.
I may not have the face for it.

L-R Gray Davis, former Gov of CA, Your eg,
and Senator John Vasconcellos,
the man who brought Self Esteem into the political arena.
