Weightloss Fasting Cautions
(Plant Your Dream!)

Weightloss Fasting Cautions by YourEnchantedGardener .....

In this Blog entry, I share my own experiences with fasting under Dr. Bernard Jensen's care, as well as my own care. The good of a fast shows up later. Be careful how you break your fast.

I am thoroughly enjoying Starrygirls (http://curezone.com/blogs/m.asp?f=120&i=15)
wonderful writing and intimate sharings about her March Challenge to lose weight. I would like to share some coaching about fasting, its benefits, and cautions from personal experience, as well as from the teachings of my spiritual father, Dr. Bernard Jensen.

My first fast was on water for two weeks in the days when Dr. Jensen fasted a lot of us at his Hidden Valley Health Ranch in the 70's. He wanted to help me with my arthritis. The results were astounding. My walk changed--My whole body armoring. He was very moved and inspired.

He took nine months to build me up with supplements and good foods before he ever attempted to guide me on a fast. He knew I had been new to natural foods, so he wanted to make sure I got use to eating whole, pure, and natural before the fast. He also wanted to build up my reserves of balanced minerals.

Fasting is going on nature's surgery table. It asked to be approached with deep reverence and respect.

The good of a fast comes after it stops. How you break a fast is critical. On my water fast, I was amazed by the results. I was excited to be shown by Mother Nature what was possible in natural healing. About four weeks after my fast, I was asked by my father to drive up to Los Angeles from the Ranch in Escondido and visit with an aunt who had come from afar. We went on a small trip. My unresolved original pain work--the stuff that caused the arthritis in the first place--was stirred. I lost my ability to eat properly. I was shocked to
go far back radically into my old patterns. The good I did on the fast was lost.

A number of years later, my arthritis was getting really bad.
I was stiffening up in my hips. Dr. Jensen was very sad about this. My healing was very important to him.

The ultimate breakdown of my hip joints came when I attempted a fast away from the ranch and broke it too soon on some healthy pizza type food. My body went into shock.
I could not recover. I had hoped the fast would save me,
it made me worse.

Soon after, I became totally crippled. I resisted Hip replacements for 19 months. When I finally had them,
my joints were extremely degenerated.

Years later, I attempted another fast on juices. I went about two weeks, but then broke the fast again very badly. I ate solid food too soon. I went into a tailspin triggered by the underlying emotions that cause eating disorders in the first place.

From breaking the fast incorrectly, and stimulated by the feelings that a fast can produce--the sense of deprivation--I went completely overboard. I could not control my eating. I was binging on everything. I did not regain a balance for well over year. I went through years of IBS, and the fast contributed.

I would recommend that fasting, including juice fasting, be done with great care and supervision, if possible.
I would study some of Jensen's materials on braking a fast.
He often would use carrots, grated and lightly steams.

I hope there are coaches on this forum that are sharing good ways to break a fast. I also want to share, a person only has so many opportunities to fast when the system is depleted in the first place.

The good of a fast comes from using the fast to
establish new habits for living.
