EcoArt: Space-Time-Matter-Energy
(EarthSpirit)
This is out of order but I wanted to post this Cardboard Box Creation by itself, in honor of the 50 year anniversary of the first lunar landing coming up on July 20.

Eco Art Cardboard Box Creation #12 "Space-Time-Matter-Energy" by mayah(c)2019 6.5" X 8.5" X 2.5" mixed media piece made from recycled cracker box, turned inside-out and coated with matte acrylic.* The background images of a galaxy and the cut-out star shapes are from an old calendar; the "doors" and words are recycled magazine advertisements; metal piece is recycled from an old photo box. Images are backed with Rhimax 100% recycled paper**; jute hanger.
I've been a bit of a "space buff" since childhood, fueled in part by my love of science fiction. We've developed theories of physics, studied the stars, landed on the moon, sent robotic equipment to Mars, sent probes out to other parts of the solar system, set up the Hubble telescope...yet we are still in our infancy regarding space exploration and remain limited in our understanding of the Universe. Science fiction allows one's imagination to soar, not bounded by our lack of knowledge. In this art piece, some of the "doors" to space are open, or partially opened, representing the knowledge that we currently possess with glimpses into the future, yet the closed doors remind us that there is much left to be explored and to understand.
"Space-Time-Matter-Energy" also pays tribute to the 50th anniversary of the first humans to step foot on the moon, on July 20,1969...Notice the little image of the Apollo 11 lunar spacecraft cruising over the edge of the galaxy in the 3rd "window" from the left, top. On the back of the box (not shown) is a small magazine image giving the following statistics on the Apollo 11 mission: "The Eagle Has Landed: Launch Day: July 16, 1969 (from) Kennedy Space Center Launch Complex 39A; Landed on Moon July 20, 1969; Landing Site: Mare Tranquillatis (Sea of Tranquility) 0.67N 23.47E; Time on Lunar Surface: 21 Hrs 38 Min 21 Sec; Mission Duration: 195 Hrs 18 Min 35 Sec; Returned to Earth: July 24, 1969."
Let our imaginations, and our exploration, soar on!
