Chronic Pain - to manage, or cure?
(Path of my Life)
Chronic Pain and Lidocaine, Vs Management.
Date: 4/30/2019 2:21:40 AM ( 5 y ago)
For so many years...
Those of us who have been living with chronic pain conditions for many years cannot be expected to be "looking for a cure" the whole time.
For the first few years it makes sense to try to find the cause and then cure it, but at some point we will realize that all we can do to help ourselves is to MANAGE... to find ways to be slightly more comfortable, or to be more active, and to stay sane.
IF I cannot be cured, then I would try to not "get worse" - that is also a management issue. Trying too hard to find a cure will likely result in a worsening of the symptoms.
This came up recently when the doctor said I should try to Lidocaine infusion therapy - I resisted at first, and the Doctor scolded me for "not willing to be cured" - that upset me - I am willing to be cured, just not believing it is possible.
As I read more about Lidocaune, it seems that Lidocaine can work for some chronic pain conditions, but not for the "systemic, pain amplification conditions such as Fibromyalgia".
So it is then, that I did give it a good try, but nothing changed except I felt dizzy at the larger doses. And it was a seriously hazardous to my management, getting to the city for those treatments.
We need to be allowed to make our own decisions when living with chronic pain - nobody else can know what we are feeling.
After 35 years of chronic pain, please do not tell me I am not trying.
