Maps of The Psyche
(Psyche & Health)

Maps of The Psyche by Chef JeM .....

Maps identify certain terrains. The quintessential terrain here is the psyche. Astrology presents an "outline" for this terrain. "Initiatic Science teaches that human beings are a reflection, a replica, of the universe." Now "The Human Design System" upgrades the astrological by incorporating the cosmic imprint into the form of the BodyGraph and thereby offers us the potential toward a more finely tuned and accurate reading of our inner terrain! However - (according to Jung) there really is no "map"!

May 1, 2-23 - "Letter M - The Expression of a Whole Science"! -

"The letter M, in the form of two peaks separated by a valley, is the expression of a whole science. If you climb to the top of the left-hand peak, for example, you will have to go down into the valley before you can climb the right-hand peak. ... The two peaks of the letter M are the two poles of a person’s psychic life: the self and God. The self, our lower nature, or personality; and God, our higher nature, or individuality. Our inner forces will be in equilibrium only when we have learned to weave the threads of our lives harmoniously between these two poles. - Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov[32]*

February 6, 2020 - The "Map"/Manual of "The Psyche" According to Human Design -

"... According to Human Design, there are two types of illness: those illnesses that belong to us and those that are conditioned in us by others. When we do not live according to our nature, our bodies and minds always pay the price. The focus of much modern therapy and medicine is on the healing of symptoms. The causes of most illnesses lie much deeper - in the way we live our lives. If we do not understand our basic genetic patterns and are unable to follow them, no matter how much we try to heal ourselves, our illness will simply reappear in another form. Human Design literally reprograms our behavioral patterns over a seven-year period. While this period of deconditioning is taking place our health can literally be transformed."[30]
--

Comment:

Re: illnesses "that are conditioned in us by others" This Blog-writer estimates that most of his suffering of "his" illnesses were those that were conditioned in him by others. He wonders what part relationship karma may play into this. In any case he has well over seven years of reprograming his behavioral patterns and does not suffer at all from the illnesses "that were conditioned in him by others." Hallelujah!

"In depth psychology, everything in therapy has to do with exploring and honoring the psyche. Both Rumi and Jung believed in the art of being and becoming, which means enfoldment of the spirit towards its original condition in searching for one’s original self, and how to reach this original self, and the means of getting to one’s original self. ..."[1]
--

Comment:

"Original Self" is another phrase much like: "Authentic Self" which is the one that you'll find used in the Human Design System. In Human Design (as it is now) we say that de-conditioning is required to reveal one's authentic self.
-

----

"According to Carl Jung, a psychological approach involves a careful cooperation in the task of creating consciousness. It involves self analysis, the courage to confront and integrate our own hidden darkness, to recognize our self righteousness, defensiveness and deepest fears, and the decision to take personal responsibility for ourselves, rather than being content to live as passive victims of what we suppose to be our pre-determined fate."[1]

Comment on 12-14-19:

"to confront and integrate our own hidden darkness": According to Gene Keys (By: Richard Rudd) the above quote refers to the "Shadow" frequencies of each of the 64 Gene Keys. This is one of the quintessential tools used by this teacher/mentor/consultant as part of one's self-healing journey.

May 6, 2019 - Dane Rudhyar on Carl Jung -

Carl Jung has paid great attention to mandalas, because of their worldwide use in all ancient cultures, and because they symbolize what he calls "the process of individuation," or of whole-making. The basic task of man is consciously to become a whole being at all levels of his existence; and he can become whole only by referring all his experiences to a common center, which is also projected as the 'circumference of his total person'."[]

August 9, 2018 - "Who Am I? Personality Types for Self-Discovery" - By Robert Frager

Book Review by Frederic and Mary Ann Brussat
Articles by experts on 21 popular typology systems.

Robert Frager is the founding president of the Institute of Transpersonal Psychology in Palo Alto, California. He is also a Sufi teacher and one of S&P's Living Spiritual Teachers. Frager serves as editor of this paperback, which is "A New Consciousness Reader." He has gathered articles by the world's leading experts on 21 popular typology systems, which have been described as "maps of the psyche."

All of these typologies address the same universal question: "Who am I?" Besides giving us insights into our behavior patterns, habits, and beliefs, these systems offer clearer understandings of others and the larger society. In his astute introduction, Frager points out that these typologies all offer special messages and are useful tools. But there is no system that is right for everyone. Different strokes for different folks is the way to look at them.

Among the many typologies covered are astrology, chakras, Ayurvedic types, Chinese medical types, tarot archetypes, left brain/right brain styles, leadership styles, body-mind types, and enneagram types. The writers include Ram Dass, Helen Palmer, Carl Jung, James Hillman, Erik Erikson, Angeles Arrien, and others.[26]

While composing a message for a friend I gained insight and inspiration writing a line that said I had thought of the impact upon my friend's psyche as a result of a particular experience. I noted that as: "The magnitude of 'Shock-Conflicts' and the impact they have upon the psyche in terms of 'mental body', 'emotional body' as well as the brain-organ." (In addition to the mental and emotional bodies the "etheric body" could possibly be added.)

I'm thinking that an understanding of these bodies may add additional support to understanding the unity between psyche, brain and organ as German New Medicine presents. Both Rudolf Steiner and Omraam Mikhael Aivanhov have presented teachings on the metaphysical bodies.

Also, Omraam presents a "key" for the resolution process that is part of recovering from shock conflicts:

"...what are the mind, the heart and the will? Doors through which our thoughts, feelings and actions flow, and the keys for opening these doors are wisdom, love and truth. Wisdom opens the mind, love opens the heart, and truth opens the will. Every time you are faced with a new problem to solve, try these keys."[2]

Stanislav Grof deserves to be considered for the "map".

"Observations from the research of holotropic states of consciousness have thrown new light on human propensity to unbridled violence and insatiable greed – two forces that have driven human history since time immemorial and are currently threatening survival of life on this planet. This research has revealed that these 'poisons,' as they are called in Tibetan Vajrayana, have much deeper roots than current biological and psychological theories assume – biology with concepts like the naked ape, the triune brain, and the selfish gene and psychoanalysis and related schools with their emphasis on base instincts as the governing principles of the psyche. Deep motivating forces underlying these dangerous traits of human nature have their origin on the perinatal and transpersonal levels of the psyche, domains that mainstream psychology does not yet recognize (Grof 2000). The finding that the roots of human violence and insatiable greed reach far deeper than mainstream academic science ever suspected and that their reservoirs in the psyche are truly enormous could in and of itself be very discouraging. However, it is balanced by the exciting discovery of new therapeutic mechanisms and transformative potentials that become available in holotropic states on the perinatal and transpersonal levels of the psyche."[4]

Niki Gratrix[9] in a recent interview for "The Heart Revolution" event says "Trauma's impact on identity resulting in identity level issues is not just biological but inside the psyche as well." For this and several other reasons it's no wonder to me that it typically can take a very full three days of intensive self-inquiry before an individual may connect with the truth of who they are - their authentic self! To whatever extent this is true (and I accept that what I am presenting here falls on a very wide spectrum) I feel compassion for the individuals who bare "identity level issues" that separate them from their truth of self, life and others!

I suspect that "identity level issues" are largely at the core of most shock conflicts ("DHS" in GNM terms referred to in other Psyche & Health posts ). In any case I believe that individuals in a conflict active state could benefit from self validating dyads and relating exercises providing they are not medicated in any way so that they are fully capable of focusing - contemplating on the truth of their authentic being! What I'm suggesting now is most largely the reason I started this Blog. Presenting possible ways to support the deep healing required in the psyche that according to the "New Medicine" is at the causative level of any disease.

Additional Jung -

"The foundations of man's personality are primitive, unconscious and universal. Inherited predispositions affect personal reactions, and a racially pre-formed collective personality both acts upon and is modified by individual experience. This unconscious life, common to all men, is expressed in dreams, myths, and archetypal images or symbols. Jung sees the total
personality or psyche as composed of a number of inter-acting systems—ego, conscious mind, personal unconscious
with its complexes, and collective unconscious.

The transpersonal or collective unconscious is one of the most original and controversial features of his theory of personality, and is the system of the psyche which Jung considered to be the most influential and powerful. It is the storehouse of latent memory traces or predispositions inherited from man's ancestral past, the psychic residue of man's evolutionary development, accumulated in consequence of repeated experiences over many generations. These latent fears and desires may become actualized through individual experience. Jung relieved that the collective unconscious, as the inherited racial foundation of the whole structure of personality, holds vast possibilities beyond those of the conscious mind and could be of immense benefit to man.

An archetype is a universal thought-form or idea which contains a large element of emotion. These primordial or
mythological images are the structural components of the collective unconscious and result from a similar type of experience having been constantly encountered by many generations. Archetypes are not isolated but may interpenetrate one another. The persona or public mask, and the anima and animus, Jung considers to be special archetypes so far evolved as to be treated as separate systems in the personality. Jung ascribes the feminine side of man's personality and the masculine side of woman's personality to archetypes. The feminine archetype in man is called the anima, the masculine archetype is woman is called the animus; these archetypes result from the sexual experiences of many generations and races.

Physiologically, both males and females have both male and female sex hormones; psychologically both individuals have masculine and feminine characteristics. In his portrait of Molly Bloom in Ulysses, Joyce makes use of the Jungian theory of the anima, along with the Gea-Tellus myth of the original bi-sexual nature of the divinity.[10]

Another "Map":

I like reading: "The process of spiritual transformation is happening in all of us."[11] However, as true as that may be, I do not wish to make any assumptions about that with anyone and without their agreement I essentially "stand still"[12] and "wait" for whatever the individual may bring forth that I then can respond to. It is so clear to me now that it really is not "my choice" but simply the "mechanics" of my Human Design. The "variable" is that I am more accepting my mechanics now not to initiate; "To Wait" for emotional clarity as well as for my sacral response before entering the "To Do" mode. And in the meanwhile I can always envision.

"In the process of evolution and reunion, we travel through different states of mind, what we might call aspects of reality. In essence, we move from the gross to the subtle. When reading through the book Kundalini Vidya, Joan’s graphic called The Lake of Mind[13] became a map for me and the various experiences I was having all began to make sense, including the main realization that trauma was intimately connected with my deepest longings and my experiences of spiritual life."

Some people have the ability to respond to shocks and possibly spare themselves of the internalization of unexpressed emotions that amy trigger biological programs (conventionally referred to as "disease"). One example of this ability is shown in the "Map" known as "The Human Design System" located at Gate 51 in the Heart Center.

Gate 51 is called "The Arousing". It is "The Gate of Shock". Zeno calls it "The arousing force of thunder".
Lynda Bunnell says this gate of "arousing" empowers the direction of love.[15]

"The ability to respond to disorder and shock through recognition and adaptation. The competitive power and drive to leap into the void first."[14]

I was inspired to post this here after reading the following description for Line 4:
"Limitation -

Exaltation: A pure inventiveness and sometimes genius to find some opportunity even in the midst of the most devastating shocks. The warrior ego that will find some way to answer the challenge.

Detriment: A reasoned make-do mentality that is ineffectual in times of severe shock. The superficial ego that lacks the resources and depth to answer challenges."

I also find it especially interesting to read:

"This Gate is part of the Channel of Initiation ... Gate 51 is part of the Individual (Centering) Circuit with the keynote of empowerment.

Addressed to individuals who have Gate 51 activated in their Human Design: "We are designed to withstand shock and to shock others, to move them out of the complacency of their safe cocoons and direct them toward personal transcendence and self love."

Here's the rest of the gate's description:
"The secret to maintaining our heart's health is to center ourselves by attuning to our Strategy and Authority, and sense within when we have the will to engage in battle, and when we don't. This guidance will allow us to adapt to the nature of any shock or disorder confronting us, and give our heart the rest it needs in order to recuperate from our engagement with the world. Without Gate 25 we may find ourselves seeking or looking to the realm of spirit for guidance or direction."[14]

"... all disease, all pain, all suffering originates in (your) energy field and comes in to your physical body. ...

You can think of this energy field as existing in layers, even though in truth these laters interpenetrate one another.

Yogis, clairvoyants and other adepts have labeled these layers."[16]

I count the descriptions that follow (in the above linked article) as a potential "map".

June 12, 2017 - The Undefined Emotional Solar Plexus in The Human Design System -

The undefined Emotional Solar Plexus center takes in emotional energy and amplifies it and therefor this can be a very painful center to have open when you do not understand how it works. It is easy to think that the emotions you are experiencing are your own, and if someone else’s energy is negative, it can be painful when it flows into your awareness. Consequently, it is common for open emotional people to develop coping strategies that involve being nice, pleasing, avoiding conflict, and having a secret life.

... It is truly more painful for these people to enter into highly charged emotional situations. It is crucial to become conscious of emotional energy when you are emotionally open so that you can allow that frequency of energy to flow through you without you feeling responsible for it or as if you need to fix it. Be an emotional screen, not a sponge.
...
Question For The Open Solar Plexus Center:
Are you avoiding truth and conflict?[17]

June 19th, 2017 - The archetypal world according to Jung -

"Jung believed that people become self-aware and both heal our Souls and walk our true soul path through rediscovery and connection with the archetypal world, and that we interact with this world through symbols. According to Jung, our Soul speaks to us in this language of images through dreams and through archetypal symbols. Astrological planets are archetypal symbols, and our birth charts are a unique 'map of our Soul' that can illuminate the relationship between our conscious and unconscious mind."[18]

September 25, 2018 - Birthday Eve Dreams -

Whether or not you are "into" remembering your dreams, recording them in a journal and possibly contemplating their symbolic language (as Jung and others have so extensively presented) I encourage my clients to at least make effort to remember their dreams from the eve - morning of their birthdays. The potential message then may be an auspicious one for the start of the individual's new year! The following is my journal entry for my current birthday dream:

I'm in a private home stetting with a few other individuals. One man speaks of his experience at a baseball game where he and his immediate surrounding seating section stood up together from their seats and thereby started a "wave" that continued in like manner and in both directions all the way around the whole ball park seating to the opposite side of the ball park. As the man shared this I simultaneously conceptualized it - imagining myself participating in creating the "wave" and by doing that I experienced the energy rising up through my whole body right along with/in my conceptualization of it.
-

This dream came a day after watching a webinar on quantum astrology where the subject of particle and wave were featured by one of the presenters.

Keywords in/about the webinar and my dream are: energy, wave, simultaneous.
Keywords not actually expressed yet underlying both presentations are: consciousness, "seize the day"/"carpe diem".

June 20, 2017 - Additional Insights Re: The "New Medicine"

PHASE 1 OF CANCER: INESCAPABLE SHOCK:

Phase 1 occurs approximately 18-24 months prior to the diagnosis of cancer. This is where the individual with cancer experiences an "inescapable shock" or acute psycho-emotional trauma, affecting deep sleep and the production of melatonin within the body. Melatonin is the primary hormone responsible for inhibiting cancer cell growth. Produced by the pineal gland during deep sleep, melatonin inhibits cancer cell growth through the on-going production of interleukin 2 (IL-2), which governs white blood cell immune activity and protects against microbial infection. Without enough melatonin due to prolonged chronic stress affecting deep sleep patterns, cancer cells thrive. As discovered by Dr Ryke Geerd Hamer (below) every cancer has a different and very specific psycho-emotional cause; whereby a part of the emotional reflex centre in the brain is damaged as a result of the prolonged psycho-emotional trauma. And as each part of the emotional reflex centre in the brain controls and is connected to a different organ of the body, as this emotion centre breaks down experiencing necrosis, so does the organ it controls leading to cancer.[19]

Genuine healing takes time and especially for the shock conflicts that have overwhelmed the psyche - just as Dr. Hamer has explained. November 16, 2017 - "Daily tensions - an exercise to overcome them" -

A quote from Omraam -
You still do not make use of the many opportunities given to you to unite with the divine world in order to calm yourself and recover your inner balance. And yet, you know very well that the agitation of daily life eventually weakens your nervous system. Human beings are not made to live in this constant tension that drains them of all their energies. It is not normal to run from morning to evening or to be harassed from all sides, and you eventually become worn out, both physically and psychically.

Several times a day, therefore, stop for a few moments. Concentrate and ... create an atmosphere of harmony and love within you and around you. By repeating this exercise often, you will succeed in touching your higher self which will project beneficial rays into all your cells. It is thus that you will restore balance and be able to deal with all your daily tasks again.[21]

This has been an exceptionally good and beneficial exercise for me over the past year! I'm reasonably confident that I will continue with it for the rest of my life. I also combine additional practices within this particular exercise including "Jin Shin" on each finger, slow deep breathing, the "7 Masters One Path" meditation sequence by John Selby and "A Course In Miracles" "attainment". It works for me! ; ~ )

November 21, 2017 - Jung Quotes -

The idea of an unconscious psyche has not yet gained undisputed currency, despite the existence of an overwhelming mass of empirical material which proves beyond all doubt that there can be no psychology of consciousness without a recognition of the unconscious. ~Carl Jung, CW 18, Para ix

Just as a lapis Philosophorum, with its miraculous powers, was never produced, so psychic wholeness will never be attained empirically, as consciousness is too narrow and too one-sided to comprehend the full inventory of the psyche. ~Carl Jung, CW 14, Para 759

Plus the following quote that initially caught my attention at another site[24] and inspired me to search it further:

I cannot define for you what God is. I can only say that my work has proved empirically that the pattern of God exists in every man and that this pattern has at its disposal the greatest of all his energies for transformation and transfiguration of his natural being. Carl Jung, “Jung” Van der Post, Page 216.[22]

I am most impressed with the phrase: "the pattern of God" and welcome using it as a primary reference to what the Quakers (and others) say is "that which is of God in everyone".[23]

Also today - What's "Shaking" On Hawaii -

I'm grateful to know a couple people who live on Hawaii and I feel concern for their safety and well being in light of the current volcanic activity there. John Martin is a Human Design analyst who lives on the big island at the edge of the volcano and via the link below he gives an audio report.

"John Martin is a 6/2 Projector on the Left Angle Cross of Demands. He is here to have an insatiable drive to correct and challenge life in order to perfect form, finding joy in the chaos. He has been living, breathing and teaching Human Design for about 17 years. 'Shaking people out of their dream states is a messy business. Most people will fight to defend the prison of their own mind. My real joy comes from helping people live this knowledge and discover their own mythology.' ~ John"[25]
-

Finally (before I crash into bed) a reply from the Joseph Campbell Foundation to which I replied as follows:

I see the quote in the: "... Joseph Campbell Companion ..." book stated as: "The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are." Apparently the version of: "The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are" has been consistently mis-quoted. However, I find it interesting that both of these appear to be distinctively reflective of the difference between Campbell and Jung! And if what Ra Uru Hu[i] said is true, that we live in a bi-verse rather than in a uni-verse then both of the statements compliment each other in reflecting an even greater whole of being AND becoming!

June 23, 2018 - The following presents an example to underscore how key understanding your Human Design can be in healing relationships:

"The first quality I look for when seeking out a healing practitioner is actually more a quality of relationship. I want to feel I am being treated as an equal. Typically, a practitioner sees a patient as someone broken, and looks for what it is about him/he that needs to be fixed. What if instead, the practitioner holds the vision of the patient as already whole, complete, and healed, regardless of what the patient believed to be true? What if she/he could see the person you are behind your story, your challenges, and your limitations, the person you are at your essence?":
http://deborahpwilson.blogspot.com

Just sent this quote to a friend who is caretaker for another friend in a healing process that includes some medical "support". Upon reading the quote a second time I suddenly realized that the last line directly pertained to the second friend who has the type of Human Design that requires recognition! In other words in order for this individual to have a healthy inter-social function and now most especially the critical doctor-patient relationship the doctor must be able to recognize the "essence" of this Individual and see that as "whole, complete, and healed"!
