Got A Natural Antidepressant In Your Soil?
(Chef Jemichel ~ The Chef-Doctor)

Got A Natural Antidepressant In Your Soil? by chef jem .....

My joy of compost!

"... Mycobacterium vaccae is the substance under study and has, indeed, been found to mirror the effect on neurons that drugs like Prozac provide. The bacterium is found in soil and may stimulate serotonin production, which makes you relaxed and happier. Studies were conducted on cancer patients and they reported a better quality of life and less stress.":

This makes me happy just reading this!
A large part of my happiness here is that it totally validates my divine joy for making compost! My supreme joy is harvesting the finished compost and especially spreading that black gold under our trees by hand! My dream is to live on a Biodynamic farm with acres of land that can be devoted to compost-making so that I could have an abundance of compost available to me and to "play" with it year round! That would be a real "heaven on earth" for me!

The article goes on to say: "How Dirt Makes You Happy -

Antidepressant microbes in soil cause cytokine levels to rise, which results in the production of higher levels of serotonin. ...

Gardeners inhale the bacteria, have topical contact with it and get it into their bloodstreams when there is a cut or other pathway for infection. The natural effects of the soil bacteria antidepressant can be felt for up to 3 weeks .... So get out and play in the dirt and improve your mood and your life."

The above linked article came to me by way of The Bovine.:

I just commented there.:

Thank you for "Antidepressant microbes in dirt?"

I predict that within the next generation the insane soil-depletion via corporate domination over agricultural lands will finally pass and the earth's soil recovery will begin to be intergrated into the lives of every land-based individual.
