Sent this message to a famous musician's line of coconut oil.:

Greetings Friends!

A friend gifted me the other night with a jar of your "Orange Almond" Coconut Oil. What does the "Orange Almond Flavor" consist of?

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Thank You.

Just resent the above message at 3:23 AM.

Whenever I see "flavor" listed as an ingredient on the label of food items it raises a flag for me and I immediately want to know what the "flavor" substance is. I'm not willing to assume that "Orange Almond Flavor" is some kind of an "extract" of orange plus almond. It may be ... however I do not want to assume that it is! Therefore I ask.

When it comes to fats ( and by fats I mean the most healthy food fats) coconut oil os not my first choice. My first choice is real, grass-fed, cultured butter!

Does anyone want to speculate as to whether or not I'll be hearing back on my inquiry?

I called the company and was told it is a "proprietary formula". I said I would need to know whether or not it is a real food-based flavor otherwise I can't recommend the product. I said it appears that I can't be assured that it is actually a food-sourced flavor. She said she "can't guarantee" that.

The company is "Ziggy Marley Organics". She then sent me an email:

"As the jar says - the flavor is natural orange almond. Our flavors are a proprietary formula and I am not able to share more."

She says it's a "proprietary formula". Formula - huh?! That is all the more suspicious in my book! Since when does real food consist of formulas?

"The only difference between an artificial and a natural flavor is that the artificial flavor never came from a food in the first place, but once upon a time, the natural flavor (supposedly) did.":

A "must read" article regarding "flavor packs" and especially regarding "natural orange flavor"!:

“... flavor packs are made from orange by-products — even though these ‘by-products’ are so chemically manipulated that they hardly qualify as ‘by-products’ any more.” (source) Since they’re made from by-products that originated in oranges, they can be added to the orange juice without being considered an 'ingredient,' despite the fact that they are chemically altered.":
