The Roots of The Word: God
(Son of Truth of Self)
The beginning of a search for the roots of one of the more controversial words.

I'm inspired to search the history of the word God. The following is part of my initial search.:
"5. (Performing Arts / Theatre) (in plural) the gallery of a theatre"
I'd like to know more about that!
"[Old English god; related to Old Norse goth, Old High German got, Old Irish guth voice]":

I find this last reference to the "Old Irish" very interesting!

"... from PIE *ghut- 'that which is invoked' (cf. Old Church Slavonic zovo 'to call,' Sanskrit huta- 'invoked,' an epithet of Indra), from root 'gheu(e)- 'to call, invoke.' ...":

Now I just need to know what "PIE' is ...
Got it!:
"PIE Proto-Indo-European, the hypothetical reconstructed ancestral language of the Indo-European family. The time scale is much debated, but the most recent date proposed for it is about 5,500 years ago. ":

Glad I was inspired to do this and to easily realize my affinity with the "invoking" nature of "the word"!
