Serendipitous timing on receiving the above article given that a couple days prior my PhD friend who has taken up a new course of study in (politically correct) nutrition reported that obesity is not considered a disease. I did not comment at the time (most probably correct in light of the fact that I only have the "Stand Still" gate as my one activation in my Throat Center). I've blogged elsewhere on the failure of modern medicine to either prevent or cure disease. The statement "obesity is not considered a disease" is consistent with the failure of modern medicine. The increase of obesity in the U.S.A. is alarming, or would be if modern medicine hadn't disconnected the alarm!

The subject matter of obesity is certainly one that deserves attention.

There are a couple things that I believe need to be clearly addressed here. First is "Nutrient-Density". Nutrient-density has what is needed for people to experience satiation which allows the body to feel satisfied and that allows people to stop eating. The nutrient-poor "foods of commerce" are missing a lot of what the body needs to experience true satiation and that naturally sets people up for over-eating. "Nutrient-Density" is very well documented by Dr. Weston A. Price in his landmark book: Nutrition and Physical Degeneration. More info at: WestonAPrice.org
and the Price-Pottenger Nutrition Foundation.

The sugar in "foods of commerce" is not only nutrient-poor it is the basis for food addictions/cravings that are tied into the over-eating cycle. "The Glories of The Renaissance Were Created With An Average Intake Of One Teaspoon of Sugar Per Head Per Year.":

People need to be educated that there is essentially two dietary fuel systems they can choose to run their bodies on. Operating on the sugar-based fuel system risks diabetes. A better choice is the fat-based fuel. However people still need to be educated about what the good fats are and especially what the good animal fats are.

Brain chemistry is at play here as well and deserves to be included when attempting to re-educate people about their dietary habits. The importance of good fats are underscored when considering brain nutrition.

Raw dairy needs to be included in the whole educational program since pasteurized dairy is problematic for digestion and what is not digested is a major factor in obesity. More on raw dairy:

How the Government Makes You Fat: Gary Taubes
on Obesity, Carbs and Bad Science

ReasonTV

"Reason.tv's Zach Weissmueller talked with (Gary) Taubes about his controversial work in the world of nutrition and epidemiology, including Taubes' hypothesis that carbohydrates, not dietary fat, overeating, or lack of physical activity, are the primary factor causing obesity.

Other topics include the inability of governments and large informational institutions such as the American Heart Association to adapt to new information, the mess of bad legislation and bad science that Taubes believes led to America's obesity problem":
