Magnesium Oil - Topical Treatment for Muscle Cramps

Note - "topical" refers to "put it on the skin"

In short -

The theory, in short, is that the topical magnesium REDUCES MUSCLE CRAMP SEVERITY.

The rest of the story -

Magnesium is poorly absorbed in the gut, as in "when we get it in diet or in oral supplements".

My Doctor explained it as a problem of "first pass through the liver" where minerals etc are removed and expelled [through the bile duct?] - it is a protective mechanism, we can't be having too much of anything... but can cause a shortage, which is less of a problem.

The Solution? - use a solution [ha-ha] - As in, try topical magnesium oil. I think the oil helps keep the mineral next to the skin so it will be available for absorption.

Personal Story -

In recent years I had been plagued by muscle cramps in my lower legs and feet, especially when sleeping. It also comes on if I am on my feet for long, or do a long walk or bike ride.

I am a chronic pain case, by the way [not only muscle cramps].

Usually while sleeping, I would wake up to find my toes curling down, or I would get a full blown cramp in my calf  [where I have to stand on that foot and lean forward to get it to relax]. Quite painfull too - I would be out of bed in a shot from a dead sleep!!

Then I got Topical Magnesium Oil, and I have not been woken up by leg or foot cramps since, it has about 5 weeks now.  I put it on in the late evening, before bed.

I do still get those twitches and some pains in my calves, it is certainly not gone altogether. I think what is happening is I am prone to muscle cramps for another reason, other than a lack of magnesium [a neurological issue perhaps] but that by supplying magnesium directly to the most affected areas I reduce the severity of the cramps.

Once again:
The theory, in short, is that the topical magnesium REDUCES MUSCLE CRAMP SEVERITY.

Also, a much less expensive option, there is magnesium in Epsom Salts and a foot bath with Epsom Salts might do the trick. This may or may not be as effective as topical oil magnesium.

Or, if you can get to a nearby ocean, the salty sea water has a lot of magnesium in it. Sea water might also have BP's crude oil, Japan's radiation, and Italy's toxic waste [organised crime dumped it] so take your chances as you see fit!!

The bottle of Magnesium Oil I bought cost me $20, probably far more than it needs to cost as the main ingredient is "ocean water".

If you are plagued by leg cramps you might want to give it a try. I am not selling it, or anything, by the way [notice there are no brand names mentioned].
