We are subconscious 99% of the time

Charging madly into the mist with our eyes closed?

Did you hear? The sleep scientists say that dreams are often about "putting the day's events into context with all previous experience and in creating probable future scenarios".

We are preparing for tomorrow when dreaming, but it sure doesn't seem like that from the dreams I remember. However, we don't remember most of our dreams, mostly it is just the one we have shortly before waking up that we are aware of.

So in this "planning for tomorrow" dreaming, since we don't remember them, it must be on a subconscious level, using intuition, when we use the "information" that the dreaming provides.

We are creating our future in our sleep, and we implement it on a subconscious level.

Gee, that sounds like cause for concern, "charging madly into the mist with our eyes closed" - what the heck are we doing? where are we going?

Well, other studies suggest that "we operate on a subconscious level 99% of the time".

And, that women "operate subconsciously" more than men do. They didn't say so, I suspect that would be related to the female's affinity for intuition.

Yet another article showed up this week on this topic of consciousness that suggested that "analytical thinking can cause their religious beliefs to waver" ; they found that by asking the test subjects to ponder subjects unrelated to religion resulted in them having a less
vigorous defense of their religious beliefs.

Comparing the value of conscious thinking to subconscious thinking -

Despite modern human's analytical ways, there is obviously still a great deal of value in our subconscious mind if we use it 99% of the time.

Intuition is a subconscious brain activity - any decent psychic will tell you that "thinking just gets in the way".

Too much subconscious thinking, when borne of "mental laziness", is just a waste of the unique human gift of consciousness. And, too much subconscious thinking, especially when it becomes a cultural norm, can easily result in a loss of freedoms - we develop a "herd mentality" and become docile and easily controlled [not a good thing!!].

Thinking can get in the way in a lot of human endevours.
on the other hand,
   Meditation is all about being able to control the subconscious flow of thoughts;
on the other hand
Creativity mostly occurs in a subconscious state
on the other hand
Uncontrolled subconscious thoughts are the birthplace of worry and anxiety.

and finally, for you to ponder, a Garpism:
       "thinking is what consciousness does"

Till next time!
Karlin
