Is Community "The Salvation of The World"?
(Son of Truth of Self)

Is Community "The Salvation of The World"? by #29621 .....

The Different Drum by Scott Peck, A Healthy Social Life by Rudolph Steiner & Krishnamurti on community, realizations by Chef Jemichel plus Integral Human Design

October 15, 2020 - Continuing With: "The Different Drum" By: Scott Peck -

"'The overall purpose of human communication is - or should be - reconciliation. It should ultimately serve to lower or remove the walls of misunderstanding which unduly separate us human beings, one from another...' Although we have developed the technology to make communication more efficient and to bring people closer together, we have failed to use it to build a true global community. Dr M. Scott Peck believes that if we are to prevent civilization destroying itself, we must urgently rebuild on all levels, local, national and international and that is the first step to spiritual survival. In this radical and challenging book, he describes how the communities work, how group action can be developed on the principles of tolerance and love, and how we can start to transform world society into a true community."[1]

What Is Community Building? -
"Community is defined as a group of two or more people who, regardless of the diversity of their backgrounds, have been able to accept and transcend their differences. They are able to communicate openly and effectively; and to work together toward common goals, while having a sense of unusual safety with one another."[5]

June 28, 2010 - Introduction -

"In and through community lies the salvation of the world".

If this is true then "community building" is the greatest contribution that anyone of us can make that I know of today. If that also is true then understanding what builds community as well as what doesn't is the most urgently needed understanding right now. I am saying this based on years of experience living in community; knowing how difficult and, at times, how impossible community-building may appear to be. I'm facing that apparently impossibility right now!

Community appears to be virtually impossible at times when according to Scott Peck "most of us have never had an experience of true community. ... Still, the attempt must be made". I have been making that attempt with considerable devotion over the past several years and it has seemed hard for me to tell whether I had made objective progress in genuine community-building right where I live with my house mates.

Now I see from the perspective that "I am the community" that I have made some progress. I do not look to someone else as my guide, etc. (I have all that I need in terms of guidance, etc, within me.) (End of 9/14 entry)

I also have had personal growth in the process of my community-building attempts here. In the terms of "The Four Agreements" by Don Miguel Ruiz I recognized an agreement that I had made with myself under the behavioral influence of my conditioning that I realized was not community-building and I have repudiated the agreement!

Update - From the first to the second day of Christmas, 2010 -

Rudolf Steiner offered something for community building and others have made it their own as well. Now I am making it my own as follows:

A healthy social life
will become a reality
when, in the mirror of each soul
the whole community is shaped
and when, in the chalice of the community
the creativity, consciousness, compassion and courage
of each individual
is truly alive.

I now realize the truth re: "the chalice of the community". I now know the Chalice and I see the same Chalice in Peck's "A Different Drum". I will do my best to communicate this to my housemates.

From the Foundation For Community Encouragement:
"A community is ... a group of people who, ... have been able to transcend their differences, enabling them to communicate effectively & openly & to work together toward goals identified as being for the common good."

The key here for me is "to communicate effectively" etc. That is why I had expressed my interest to have NVC in our household. We have to have a way to communicate our observations, feelings, needs and our desires and it needs to be done in a circle. That is the "Chalice"!

And now for another perspective:

I read this for the first time as of January 9, 2011 and it really got my attention:
"A man who experiments does not know what is going to come out. That is the beauty of experimentation. If you know what is going to come out of it, you are not experimenting. So, the difficulty in having a teacher, a community, an ashram, lies in this: that you make it your reference, you make it your shelter. The guru is not so much at fault as the follower. You make your guru your reference, you hand your life over to him to be told what to do. No man can tell you what to do. If he tells you what to do, he does not know; a man who knows does not know. Do not seek a reference, do not seek shelters, but experiment, become confident; then you will have your own reference, which is truth. Then you will be aware that you are the community,"[3]

I grok this! I could restate this (if I needed to) in my own words. What I am interested in is dialoging with others who also grok this and who are either living in community or have lived in community in the past and are interested in living in community again. In others people who have some community living experience and see value in that. I have lived in community and am currently living in a household that I came to with the intention of living in community over three years ago.

Another quote:
"... if anyone is to work for the community, he must perceive and feel the value, the nature and importance, of this community. He can only do this when the community is something quite different from a more or less indefinite summation of individual men. It must be informed by an actual spirit, in which each single one has his part. It must be such that each one says: ‘It is as it should be, and I will that it be so’. The community must have a spiritual mission, and each individual must have the will to contribute towards the fulfilling of this mission. All the vague abstract ideals of which people usually talk cannot present such a mission. If there be nothing but these, then one individual here or one group there will be working without any clear overview of what use there is in their work, except it being to the advantage of their families, or of those particular interests to which they happen to be attached. In every single member, down to the most solitary, this spirit of the community must be alive ..."[4]

"... relationships ... work because they are based on being seen, on seeing and being seen, and on mutual respect, and on appreciation and on understanding. Knowing the practical life code of yourself (Via Human Design) and of the other person in front of you helps you to accept the person and appreciate the person exactly the way they work. (The) lower left quadrant (of the mapping presented by Ken Wilbur and Integral) is about what the genes do naturally – which is cooperation, communication and creativity, together forming a community that works in cooperation.

That’s what happens in each of our cells, in 60 billion cells of our body. And this is what we’re here to do together. To have an all-embracing attitude, and be inviting to other people, so that real relationships that work are accessible."[2]
