Amazing Grace How Sweet the Sound
(Southern Etiquette or life in Dixie)
Are these just some nice words? Who wrote that most famous Hymn? Why did he write it? Once you realize the life story of the person who penned these words and come to understand that he lived them; then maybe you can appreciate the True meaning!

Do you know who wrote that most famous hymn?
John Newton.. Who when he wrote "Through many dangers, toils and snares i have already come..."
He had actually lived them; as a rebellious youth, a Blasphmer, and person who had tried to live the worldy lust and temptations... He most likely saw and experienced more pain, agony and grief than most people will even Imagine.
In a letter for the direction of his epitaph he wrote:
" I propose writing an epitaph for myself, it may be put on a plain marble tablet near the vestry door, with the following purport:
John Newton, Clerk
Born 1725 Died 1807
Once an infidel and libertine
{ Liberitne : One who acts without moral restraint; a dissolute person. 2. One who defies ** Redeemed means that one is completely brought into full kinship or citizenship!
established religious precepts ... }
A servant of slaves in Africa
Was, by the Rich Mercy of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ
Preserved, restored , pardoned
And appointed to preach the faith he had long labored to destroy.
Near sixteen years at Olney in Bucks then
twenty - seven years at St Mary's of Woolnoth.
On the first of February 1750, he married Mary.
Daughter of the late Geo Catlett of Chatham, Kent.
He resigned her to the Lord who gave her on the 15th day of December, 1790."
"I earnestly desire that no other monument or no inscription but this purpost be attempted for me."
If you have not read about this man; He lived the extremes of life, a God hater, who found the Truth!
On the wall of his office facing him was this scripture:
"Since you are precious in my sight, you have been honorable. But you should remember that you were a bondman (slave) in the land of Egypt (the world) and The Lord your God redeemed thee... " Deut. 15:15
Here is a man I call one of my Heros! At least he saw the light!
