American Health Reform, Part Two
(Path of my Life)
Americans Will Remember that no Republicans voted for this health care reform bill

US Health Care Reform bill - March 21, 2010.
"Republicans are voting as a group - that might be an indication that they are not free to vote their conscience".
Americans Will Remember that no Republicans voted for this health care reform bill.
There are many good things in this bill, such as not dropping people who get sick - that really sucks when the insurance companies do that, it is more or less criminal, it is certainly abusive to say "if you are never going to get sick you can keep buying our health insurance". Okay, good, I don't want to get sick anyhow?
Helping youth make the transition to adult responsibilities is the point of allowing kids to stay on their parent's health insurance policy until age 26. Does anyone disagree with that? Do you have children who will one day be making that transition? Isn't this a good thing?? [ok, I will get to the other side of the argument soon].
And then , by 2014, the other major abuse of the insurance companies will end and they will no longer be able to deny coverage on the basis of pre-existing conditions. Thats a good thing.
Even the insurance companies might be okay with ending those abuses, because if none of them are allowed to do it then it is a level playing field ; if one insurance company does it, they all have to do it or lose market share because the one who doesn't do it are absorbing higher costs and cannot compete with the lower rates of their competition. I am sure every health insurance worker would rather approve a claim than deny it, except for their bonus money.... now they won't have to make that choice so often. We all know, inside, when something is wrong, and this is wrong.
So with these major improvements to American health care, where are the Republicans? What does it say that NOT ONE Republican will vote yes for this health care reform bill? What, with all these improvements, will Americans think of Republicans from now on? What if this bill proves itself magnificently, won't some Republicans wish they had been on board when it was passed?
The real reason that not one Republican will vote for health care reform, whatever the exact bill reads, is due to corporate pressure from pharmaceutical and health insurance corporations. Those lobbyists have more than doubled their spending in the last year, knowing this was coming. There are, I heard, 4500 lobbyists from the health industry in Washington this month, some kind of record. Unreal. Obvious.
Or is there a bad side? John Bonner says this bill is "Armeggeddon". His word. He owns it.
Karl Rove says this bill is EVIL. He should know?
The resistance to this health care reform, the protesters, are saying things like "it is too much government", despite the fact that EVERY developed nation on earth has health policy with LESS corporate involvement than America will have if this bill passes, and none of those other nations seems to have caught fire or anything. I should add that of those other nations, they all have LOWER per capita health care spending than America does, and they cover ALL their citizens.
Ahh, yes, but is it GOOD health care in those other nations? the protesters ask, pointedly. Well, I think so, because people in other developed nations die at a slower rate than Americans do, and overall health indicators show that Americans rank about 25th in the world for healthy-ness. Mostly, it is a lot better to have SOME health care, unlike 30 million Americans [some of whom are illegal aliens, yes... why do you hate them so bad? Mean. In Canada, we will cover any American who works here for six months.
And the money. Republicans are freaking out about government deficits, but it isn't real, I am sure they know that Bush did more than Obama will do to create budget deficits, and all that was based on a LIE [about going to war]. In fact, this health care reform could SAVE money for everyone except a few evil corporations that do not even exist in many nations [health insurance corporations, for eg.], and as for government deficits it certainly is not a fact that this bill will even be of any overall expense to the US Government. There are a few bald faced lies out there over this, and the idea about the U.S. government going broke over this bill is one of them. It is simply not going to happen, just as it didn't happen in Canada 35 years ago when we got universal health care, or in ANY other developed nation with even more government involvement in health care. None.
Okay, thats enough of the resistance viewpoint. I have heard nothing more than rhetoric from Republicans. They are voting AS A GROUP and that should tell you something - they are not free to vote their conscience.
With this bill, many more Americans will be better served and American lives will be saved and there will be fewer "bankrupcies due to illness". More American families will have both parents [at least 10,000 single families are created each year in America due to illness that is not treated due to not having health insurance coverage for whatever reason].
Communities are better off when health care is accessable by all, and when everyone is healthier, which is an effect that this bill will have on Americans. Over HALF of you are overweight... or is that OBESE? Its getting there... you need better health care, me thinks.
And, in case you actually worry about this kind of thing, your government is not becoming "too big". Far from it, about as far from it as any nation can be. America is great, it will be even greater with universal health care. Relax, this is not a bad thing. America will allways have the smallest government - if that is your reason to live then you have got it made, no worries there.
