Healing Gardens
(Plant Your Dream!)
I have been creating Healing Gardens at Conferences for many years. In 1984, I was given a U.N. Peace Medal by ROBERT MULLER, then undersecretary general for the ENCHANTED GARDEN INSTALLATION I created at the MANDALA CONFERENCES in 1982-83. The Mandala Conference was one of the birthplaces for the Holistic Health Movement in America. The Enchanted Garden was there right from the beginning of the movement.

I have been creating
ENCHANTED GARDEN INSTALLATIONS
at Conferences for many years.
ROBERT MULLER, THen Undersecretary General
of the UNITED NATIONS,
came to the MANDALA CONFERENCE in 1982,
in an exhausted state from New York.
He fell asleep on a Bodyslant surrounded
by an array of aromatic and healing herbs in pots.
In the background, there was harp music
and the sound of water and a live bird.
All these was created at the TOWN AND COUNTRY
CONVENTION CENTER on what was a cement
floor a few days before.
Muller fell asleep, inhaling the fresh herbs.
When he woke up, he was disoriented.
"Where am I?" he said.
"You are in the Enchanted Garden,"
I told him.
From a deep place in his lungs,
Robert Muller said to me,
"Let Us Make Our Entire, Miraculous Planet
into an Enchanted Garden!"

He came to the conference to give a U.N. Peace
Medal to its founder. Before he left to return
to New York, he came back into the healing garden.
He was followed by the press. He did not have
time to give them a story. He had to catch a plane.
He turned to them and said, "if you want a story,
talk to Leslie."
Before he left, he pressed something into my hand
without speaking. i Looked at it. It was a U.N. Peace
Medal. I was confused. Did he give these to
many people? He returned a year later. I asked
him about the medal. He said no. Robert Muller is a deeply
spiritual man with many visions. He said
he gave the medal to me, not so much for the work
I had done in my life, but the work I would do in my life.
I have been doing that work for
more than thirty years.
HERE is a link to a PLANT YOUR DREAM BLOG
with some photos from the recent
ENCHANTED GARDEN INSTALLATION
at the PACIFIC SYMPOSIUM 09,
November 5-8, 2009 at the CATAMARAN RESORT HOTEL.
I have been bringing Feng Shui elements to
the conference for more than 12 years.

LESLIE GOLDMAN
YOUR ENCHANTED GARDENER
BIO NOTES
FROM THE FENG SHUI and ECOLOGY CONFERENCE
1999
Leslie Goldman
Plant Your Dream.
Discover the enchantment of the soil, the passion of the garden with Leslie Goldman. What seeds lie dormant within you? Where could your life use some blossoming or some fruit? Through earthy ritual and inspired poetry, Leslie invites participants to re-awaken an intuitive relationship with the primeval forces of growth, flowering and bearing fruit. By mindfully planting a seed in the Earth, you can give life to your dreams and nurture them to an abundant harvest.
Leslie Goldman, the 'Enchanted Gardener,' is an extraordinary organic farmer* from Southern California who in 15 years of gardening has developed an intuitive relationship with the Earth. Gardening is Leslie's spiritual, poetic and mystical practice, and his inspiring example leads people to a whole new way of experiencing the vitality and life-energy around them.
[ This quote was written by ROGER GREEN, who co-produced the conference
with Bill Spear. I am not a farmer, merely an Enchanted Gardener connecting
people's deepest dreams with growing seeds, plants, and trees. ]
THE FENG SHUI CONFERENCE OF 2001
in ORLANDO
One of my most amazing ENCHANTED GARDEN INSTALLATIONS
was in 2001 in Orlando, Florida, at the DISNEY HILTON.
I was close to having hip revisions. I had hip replacements
in 1975. I would not be walking today if it were not
for modern surgeries. I have a deep love for the nurses
and staff who were with me both in 1975 and in 2001-2002.
In 2001, I was in a lot of pain.
I wanted to have one more positive experience before I went
under the knife. I committed to do that healing garden
at a time when I could hardly carry a plant myself. By the
time of the conference, the program director who talked
me into doing the garden had resigned her post.
How was I going to set up a Healing Garden 3000 miles from
home? I banked everything I had on creating a healing relationship
with the horticulturists at Disney. The day of the set up,
an enormous array of flowers was shipped cross country
from The RODRIGUEZ FAMILY, local, organic San Diego
farmers and growers. Disney staff showed up with
all the trees and plants I needed. I brought my
healing staff, including MOREA GARCIA, who
has been with me on projects like this, doing her
healing work, for more than 20 years.
I was scheduled to teach as well at the conference.
JAMES MOSER, the creator, was so moved by the Healing Garden
that when I asked him to open the Closing Ceremony,
he said yes. I began with silence, then said, "I love you."
There was a hush over the entire audience of more than
600 people. It was a playful and inspired talk, and honored
the staff from Disney. After the event, I was given a private tour
of Epcot Center and gave SEEDS OF CHANGE
open pollinated seeds to the horticulture staff.
They gave me some plants as well that to this day
are growing on my back porch. It was one of those
moments that I wanted to keep growing. I think of it
every time I water those plants.
I was so committed to alternative healing that
I delayed conventional hip surgery as long as I could.
Two surgeons did not want to take on the job.
As a result, I was led to one of the finest surgeons
in the world. My entire experience at THORNTON HOSPITAL
was a healing adventure.
One day I will write up all these stories for a book.
FROM THE INTERNATIONAL FENG SHUI & ECOLOGY CONFERENCE
1999
Eacn year at the PACIFIC SYMPOSIUM
I gift the PACIFIC COLLEGE OF ORIENTAL MEDICINE
with one of my Art pieces. This is the
Art, BEETKEEPERS RETURN, that now
hangs at the Mission Valley Campus
where M.D.'s and Acupuncturists work
side by side in the doctoral program
advancing what we now define as
INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE.
Healing Gardens at Integrative Centers
are now a popular trend.
I attended the SYMPOSIUM ON
HEALTHCARE DESIGN in 2003
as a guest of WILLIAM SPEAR,
founder of the FORTUNATE BLESSINGS FOUNDATION.
His Workshop was called
ENERGY AND MEDICINE; ADDRESSING
THE UNIQUE DESIGN NEEDS of
COMPLEMENTARY< ALTERNATIVE
and INTEGRATIVE MEDICINE.
One of the outcomes was teach:
How to appreciate, respect, and welcome
the essential integration of a wide range
of healing modalities in modern facilities
while greatly improving patient outcome,
economy, and efficiency.
William, an ally who I met years before
when I created Healing Gardens at various
International Feng Shui Conferences,
invited me to bring live aromatics herbs
from the ENCHANTED GARDEN INTENTIONAL COMMUNITY,
my home garden.
Aromatic herbs can shift the emotions within fifteen
seconds. Among my favorite are chocolate peppermint
and lemon verbena, an natural anti-depressant
high in Vitamin A.
The herbs and herb basket I brought
were a profound hit in his workshop.
For four days, the conference attendees were
entranced by a single aromatic rose that
bloomed for the occasion.
My international debut as a teacher
was at Williams FENG SHUI and ECOLOGY
CONFERENCE in 1999 at Kirpalu conference
Center. I broke my knee two days before
I traveled across country.
I met international reknowned architects
and healers at that event that are my allies
to this day.
I crossed the country in a wheelchair
and taught from a wheelchair with the help
of a dear friend LURRAE who took care of
my needs.
The teaching experience was a profound
success. Before I left, Lurrae and I visited
William's office.
"So what is next between us?" I asked.
He looked at me and said,
"I am not interested in what is possible between
us. I am interested in what is impossible between us."
I have never forgotten his words.
I am not interested in what is possible
between us. I am interested in what is
impossible between us.
The world of integrative medicine will be
advanced beyond measure when the
skills I have learned over so many years
in setting up temporary healing Gardens
at conferences are applied to an established
Integrative Medicine Center.
Beyond whatever growth pattern, each
circumstance presents, I know I will come to see
sush a garden.
The world asks this of me.
This world asks this of integrative medicine.
I envision creating a world class healing garden
for an integrative medical center before long.
Each year at the Pacific Symposium I do the closing
ceremony. We are at a time in our history when
Traditional Chinese Herbs need to be grown in
American Soil. This is a recurring message
I share in my brief closing ceremony.
Each week, I get accupuncture at PACIFIC COLLEGE
OF ORIENTAL MEDICINE. Part of the reason I do
this is to be part of the community of students.
Years ago, these acupuncturists would have been the M.D.'s
of their generation. Now they are going into acupuncture.
I am also treated of late by the doctoral program candidates.
There are teams of M.D.'s and acupuncturists working
together. It is all perfect.
The economy of Medicine is now at the point
where M.D., Acupuncturist, and soil expert
will come together. There is no other way
we can truly establish a system of Health Care
reform that is based on lasting principles.
That too will come to pass.
